Toyota's Scion Has Major Air Bag Recall
Toyota's Scion will recall about 30,000 Scion tC sports coupes because their side air bags could go off if the doors are shut with force during or 90 seconds after the ignition is turned off. The recall will comprise about 20% of all 2005 and 2006 model year Scion TCs sold. So far there have been 17 cases of this occurring, but thankfully with no injuries. Toyota will notify the owners by mail soon, but here is a telephone number (866) 707-2466. This looks like some serious stuff.

no, it looks like the Bentley Continental. they both have FOUR tires.

It's a pretty annoying problem for your car to have.

I mean, would you rather get hit by an airbag, or for your radio to have a faulty AM transmitter? Just an example of an average recall.

note the article said this may occur "..if the doors are shut with force..."

unlike some other brands where the door has to be SLAMMED for it to latch properly, toyota doors only require gentle closing. a possible reason the sensor trigger MAY have been too sensitively set.

also note, all of 17 occurences were recorded.

and maybe the sensors ARE set at a proper level.

and there just happened to be 17 neanderthals among the 30,000 people who bought this car.

(which makes one wonder how many recalls are just due to driver/owner deficiencies, rather than in the cars or assembly process?)

the manufacturer knew this was a problem and fixed it. thats why only 25% of scion tcs were affected (unless the others didnt have air bags.) anyway they were ready for the recall BEFORE claims were made. they just have to see how many claims are made and possible lawsuits to be prevented by fixing this. its a numbers game.

am transmiters are not recalls they are service notes. recalls are major problems that can cause injury or unsafe driving conditions. so the vehicle is issued a recall. howver if it is something small and mechanical that can be fixed or not it is issued a service note, and next tiem it is in for service or repair it will be fixed at no charge.
