So Far Only Startup Insurance Companies Are Offering A Discount For Using Tesla's Autopilot
Earlier this year, Tesla said that it was working with insurers in order for them to better understand features like the Autopilot.

Now, a major insurer announced that they are offering a 5 percent discount for drivers using Tesla’s driver assist system.

Britain’s largest motor insurer Direct Line confirmed to Reuters that they are offering the discount to encourage the use of Autopilot.

Wrong, ZERO OTHER CARS offer Autosteer at full highway speeds and ZERO economy cars offer Autosteer at any speed. You'll have to drop six figures on a Mercedes or Audi to get that kind of functionality for traffic speeds (below 35mph). A car that steers and effectively drives itself is not the same as a beep or jolt when you start going over the line. Next time do some actual research.

FYI, the very first car to release anything close to Autopilot will only come Summer 2018, and it will be exclusive to the Mercedes S Class.

Actually. With Audi, the least expensive car is the A4 Prestige with Drivers Assistance, just under $50k. Will get you "AutoSteer", its called Traffic Jam Assist, and will work up to 40mph. You can also get it on the A5 line, Allroad, Q5 and Q7.

Okay, $50k for autosteer at 40mph. That is still nowhere near what Tesla can do at full highway speeds on a $40k Model 3.

Terribly written headline article. It should something like "First major insurance company of offer discount for using Tesla's Autopilot." It reads as if only boutique companies are offering the discount today, when the news is actually an expansion of the discount to major insurers.

Only if you are watching Harry Potter movies on a portable DVD player.

Do you put your car on cruise control and expect to be able to answer emails on your laptop? No, RTFM... you still have to pay attention while using autopilot (for the next couple years at least).

I am still waiting to see how the Liability and Driving record results play out.

If the car causes an accident - who is at fault insurance and driving points wise? IF can be established it was a true software glitch - does the manufacturer retain some liability that they cannot get a driver to sign away?

That's just paranoid.
