Lexus Teases LF-1 Luxury Flagship Before Detroit Auto Show
Lexus will reveal a new flagship SUV concept called LF-1 at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show and decided to tease us with a partial photo of it.

All we know so far is the LF-1 was designed at the CALTY design studio in Southern California and is expected to showcase the next step in Lexus’ current design language, with the company describing it as a "crossover with no limits".

Flagship SUV? So what will the LX be? Are they looking to do a G-Class equivalent?

I wonder if they are doing the Q8-equivalent of Audi and having an SUV-coupe as the flagship. Based on where the industry seems to be going, it wouldn't surprise me.

If they do a flagship SUV it had better not be based on the FWD platform of the RX...it needs to ride on the LC/LS platform. The LX would still have a place for those who prefer the Truck based SUV...it is very much a niche market but the engineering/production costs are probably low enough (since the Land Cruiser and LX are both produced for other markets where they sell well)

They should leave the truck-based SUV to Toyota's Land Cruiser and go full-on full-size crossover. That's where the market is and where the RX realizes such tremendous success.

Replacing the GX cannot happen quickly enough. A FWD/AWD architecture is perfectly fine. I mean the Cayenne, Bentayga, and Urus are based on the Audi Q7 which is essentially a FWD/AWD architecture at heart.

GX will probably get updated, but I don't see the rush. It's been selling better and better every year since 2014. There is obviously a market out there that people preferred truck-based large SUV with N/A V8. The same thing can be said for Ford F-Series or Jeep models. They had little updates and people still wanted it. Old doesn't mean it's bad.

Correct. So long as it is not a supersized RX. However, the photo attached seemed to indicate that. A super luxury CUV/SUV to compete more directly with the smooth riding models of competitors is a good idea. The LX can remain and even the GX can continue if it still fulfills a role and has decent sales figures. Time will tell what Lexus has created for the corporate elite and their kids to ride in.
