BMW 8 Series Coupe Caught In Final Stages Of Testing

We’ve been wowed by the concept car and shown next year’s M8 GTE race car, but this is the centre of it all, the new 8-series Coupe. Spotted undergoing final testing before its imminent reveal, the new 8-series Coupe is a long, low grand tourer with aspirations of giving the Mercedes S-class Coupe and Aston Martin DB11 a new rival to worry about in the GT class.

Seen here with telling details such as production-ready lighting units and only a thin veil of body-cladding, this development 8-series is not the upcoming M8 judging by the trapezoidal exhaust outlets, instead it's the more luxury-orientated standard version. The sleek coupe is pitched at a higher point in the market than its 6-series Coupe predecessor, meaning that as well as a higher price, we are expect seating for four full-sized adults and the latest in luxury car tech.

Nice stance though grille more upright and less aggressive than concept.

The strength of the concept was some dramatic but tasteful design elements. This already looks so dumbed down and will have a hard time against the LC500 and S-Class coupe. Really hoping there's something special under all that camo, but not holding my breath.

Yep, with the LC500's supercar looks and the only N/A V8 left. And the S-Class coupe conservative-sporty looks and AMG prestige. Where will this 8-series fit in?

Pathetically dull.

Exactly what makes it different than the 6-series coupe?

Maybe instead of the 8-series, it should just be called the BMW Grand Prix.

Throwback to 2011 when Pontiac still existed!
