2008 Volvo XC50

Volvo is creating a new model as a competitor for the BMW X3. The new Volvo XC50 will go on sale on the same time with the new Audi Q5.

The XC50 is a smaller version of the XC90, but with its own personality. The design is sporty and dynamic, with classic Volvo radiator grill in foreground forming a V-shape with front lights. The side is a good compromise between dynamism and off road requirements. The back of XC50 reminds directly its bigger brother: vertical displacement of lights is close to XC90’s.

The XC50 will be powered with the same engine as the V50 with an output 145 to 220 hp. It will debut at the end of 2007 and will go on sale in the first months of 2008.

For some reason that looks like a Volvo's take on the Ford Edge to me. I don't think its a bad idea but it looks like they've finally discovered badge engineering over at Volvo.

Volvo keeps pushing for an invite to the big party this is a step up for them. Its a little bit bolder for them.

Wasn't it going to be XC60?

I agree with kart1 and TauronLB, it does look too much like an Edge. For me a smaller XC90 with a minor facelift would've looked just fine.

XC50 makes more sense.

XC50, XC70 and XC90. Get it? All odd numbers. It's also in line with their wagons, V50 and V70. XC60 just sounds all wrong.

And I do think it's just a photoshopped Edge, with a slightly modified C30 front end. Not the finished product.
