Aston Martin Markets RapidE To Tesla Customers Who Don't Want To Look Poor

Customers of Aston Martin’s upcoming RapidE electric model will be very different to those interested in a top-of-the-line Tesla model, according to boss Andy Palmer.

“Most of the people who buy a Model S are buying it fully loaded. They’re not limited by their cash; they’re limited by the offer,” Palmer said.

“We’re looking to those guys looking for something above Tesla. That customer probably isn’t looking for 'Ludicrous mode'. Our offer will have very credible acceleration – equal to a petrol Aston Martin – but you’ll be able to drive the car rapidly all the way around the Nürburgring without it derating or conking out on you.”

First off, think the headline is supposed to be "who DON'T want to look poor." Second, when the article is comparing the off-the-line acceleration to a Nissan Leaf--that is not a good thing. Hopefully it is as track-suited as they claim.

Don't want to look poor? Many of the wealthy people I know profess to be 'poor' (no wealthy) and drive modest cars to remain under the radar.

Aston needs to brings out a 'poor man's car.'

Aston is not in the business of making a "poor man's car". TO them - a poor man makes less than $1,000,000 a year.

Aston is in the market to make cars that most people who BUY them - put into their collections and drive them once a year maybe. They are "green" only because their cars almost never give off emissions - they are almost never driven.

Smart to do a test car with the e-drive made to fit. Who knows maybe they can charge even more for this Rapide-E model as it will be sort of bespoke. I would not be at all surprised. Considering the power available in the BEV Mercedes SLS concept from a few years ago, this Aston could be suitably swift if they were allowed to pluck that package from Mercedes. Plug and play.

Uh, I do't know anyone who drives a 100k+ car who looks poor. Stupid title.

More PR hyperbole from non-other than the Carnival Barker Andy Palmer. No thinking person is buying a RapidE in place of a Tesla unless they like losing more than the value of a Tesla Model S on their first day of ownership. Is this the "best" car he has ever worked with? He assumes that the rich people looking for Electric driven transportation are flat ass stupid... Aston RapidE can not hold a technical candle to the Tesla and there is ZERO back seat room in the Aston.. Nice try Carnival Barker, no-one is really listening except some delusional press agents and a few investors still dumb enough to believe these claims.

Thing about RapidE is that it just looks like a DB(fill in your number) with 2 more doors, very *yawn*.
