Porsche Says 60% Of Panameras Buyers Are Opting For The Hybrid Model

Porsche AG, its name synonymous with sports cars, is gaining traction in the shift to electric autos.

The Volkswagen AG unit said 60 percent of buyers of its revamped Panamera four-door coupe opted for the partly battery-powered version from its sales start in June through October. The brand is now rolling out the vehicle in China and the U.S., its largest markets. The demand shows electric vehicle sales are starting to gain traction as carmakers spend billions to meet tightening emissions regulation.

60% is nothing to sneeze at. The Hybrid model is not exactly cheap either. Big money to go green and Porsche clients are happy to pay.

If you compare the base Panamera 4 to the base Panamera 4 E-Hybrid (all Panamera Hybrids have AWD), the Hybrid offers better performance (more HP, quicker 0-60 times, higher top speed) than the ICE variant, for only 11% higher sticker price.

The next step up in performance is the Panamera 4S, which offers slightly better performance than the Hybrid, for about 3.4% higher sticker price (US$3400), but with worse fuel economy. This is the real Hybrid/ICE comparison for the Panamera. I can see why many folks opt for the Hybrid, especially when you consider that it can do about 30 miles in pure electric mode, for those short runs around town.

They are likely incentivizing the hybrid making the cost not too much more expensive. They will probably subsidize the leases here to make them more attractive. They don’t really sell economy cars so they have to boost their avg fuel economy somehow.

Bingo Malba.

Since when has Porsche ever offered reasonable priced options. This is nothing but a CAFE strategy to fudge the numbers but not in a Clean Diesel way (could not resist).
