DRIVEN + VIDEO: The All-new BMW M5 Gets TESTED — Is It Going To Be Enough To Take On The E63?
So, BMW has introduced the much-anticipated M5. Now we're talking about a 600 horsepower V8 mated to an eight-speed autobox, an all-wheel drive set up and a zero to 60 time of about 3.4 seconds.

While that sounds very impressive straight away, we're a bit concerned. That's because of two things: First, did it lose its certain special something that made all BMW M cars special; and, second, is it better than the Mercedes-AMG E63 S?

Frankly, I am pretty sure that's the only thing that matters at this point.

Our friends across the pond at Autocar weighed in and have the answer for you, below.

This is the new BMW M5, BMW's executive supersaloon, which has 592bhp (600hp) and, just as importantly, 4wd to put all of that power to the road, and with which to challenge the Mercedes-AMG E63.

Just for engine sound alone, the E63S would be my choice. And the AMG's styling touches distinguish is just enough from the non-full-AMG models to make it look the part. And I guess I do like the Merc's interior better. The only advantage that I could see the M5 having is a bit of a more refined, softer feel during daily driving, that is, if it can handle as strongly as the AMG in 10/10 driving.

As long as mom in her M5 gets home from the supermarket quick enough so that the ice cream does not met. That is today's real test of high performance BMW cars.

Mercedes for me. I don't want to spend M5 money for a car that looks 18 years old.

BMW "M" has become irrelevant. The E30 M3 was an icon that actually did real track time on a real track.

"M" series today are basically an option kit and a 'chipped' engine.

Sad.

Better enjoy this type of performance fossil fuel car while you can. The European governments will soon be forcing everyone to driving electric golf carts.
