In the fight between the enthusiasts and bean counters, BMW has been a longtime ally—battling tooth and nail and allowing cars like the M2 come to surface despite the fact that they only seem to serve to cannibalize sales of more expensive M cars. At one point, the rumors indicated that the German automaker was cooking up some ultra-special M models that would be badged under the legendary CSL name. Our hope was that those rumors would materialize in the form of an M2 CSL. Our hopes, unfortunately, have now been dashed.

Not sure why the huge cost of a hybrid version of a low volume car would impede the development of another niche but highly profitable low volume car. M2 CSL is easily doable for a high profit. I would not have made that same decision.

its probably because Porsche has a hybrid performance 4 door, and Audi is also working on one. I'm sure car companies are trying to get the Tesla numbers for the 0-60 times.

The 2 Series is a deeply compromised design, so giving it the CSL treatment would be idiotic. An M4 CSL makes greater and more appropriate sense.

I visited my local Beemer dealer to see the M2 car. It is just like a miniaturized M3. And I do mean very miniature!
