Based On DESIGN ALONE, Who Did It Better? Jeep Or Mercedes-Benz?
Design is completely subjective. Unlike something that's objective, like math, design is more of an art. It's not absolute.

Frankly, I think that's what makes it great.

And in the case of auto manufacturers, design is hugely important. According to the latest reports I've read, the second most important element of a buyer's decision is the design of a product. I believe it's because autos still remain a status symbol in our society.

Two of the most stylish vehicles on sale today are the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Based off of more vintage variants, they've seen major improvements over the years; however, they're due for all-new replacements.

While the 2018 Jeep Wrangler was unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the all-new Mercedes-Benz G-Class will keep us waiting until the 2018 Detroit Motor Show. Having said that, the G's all-new interior was revealed to the public yesterday.

Though I know they're in two distinct price classes, I've got to ask: WHO delivered a better, all-new design?

Keep in mind that both models are hugely loved as they currently exist and each automaker had a tremendously difficult job to improve upon what's already a proven success. One just did it better than the other.

So, who gets your vote?

Mercedes. The Jeep is very cluttered

Agree
Did anyone notice just how similar the two Steering wheels are though?

Benz by far, but comparing two vehicles at opposite price points makes it an unfair comparison.

The look doesn't suit a Mercedes. Even if it's an SUV.
Something about the MB screams '80s boom-box.
This layout suits the rugged profile of the Jeep better.

Jeep is true and consistent to what it was and is. Mercedes is trying to blend an armed forces heritage with a luxury twist, a mixed message for sure though one that sells well at high prices to the country club wanna bees.

Agreed. Both look stupid.
But that's the whole point of the people who buy these — to look stupid rich, right?
Both win!

The Mercedes is less cluttered. However at the price point Mercedes charges I think it's a poor design. Mercedes should look luxurious. Volvo's today have better more luxurious dashboards. As for the Jeep it is a little cluttered. However the Jeep is so much less money and offers so many interesting things an options that I can over look it. Also the Jeep interior is virtually waterproof. In the Mercedes you would probably frie all the electronics.

The Mercedes is a $1,400 pair of Moncler hiking boots while the Jeep is a $200 pair of Salomon (or Merrel or Timberland) hiking boots.

For task-use and/or utility, the cheaper one is much, much better than the more expensive one however for fashion use, the expensive one is the only choice.

It all depends on your perspective.

The Canadian army (and others) still uses the military version of the G-Wagon LUVW Light Utility Vehicle Wheeled as a troop carrying vehicle. It uses a 2.7L 5cyl diesel motor so it won't outrun much. But you can likely fix it in the field with a hammer. And it will go forever too.

Is "Canadian army" an oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp"?

With a population approximating that of California and a GDP ($1.5T) that is quite a bit less than the coastal state ($2.4T), I am surprised we have more than border guards.

Having said that type JTF2 into your browsers and see what comes up. Like the Navy Seals and British SAS, the JTF2 are used when it is time to take out Baba Yaga and those who serve him. We pull our weight, with slightly dated gear, but much better I would think by the by then being saddled with a $20T+ dollar national debt just to fly planes that don't like being wet (F-22).
