Audi's First Performance EV Will Be In 2020 - What Model Should Be First?

Winkelmann, who will become president of Bugatti from January 2018, said at the RS4 launch that Audi Sport “will be less evolutionary and more into revolution”.

Audi Sport, which was rebranded from Quattro last year, will see “from 2020 onwards, the start of the introduction of battery electric vehicles”, said Winkelmann: “This will start by the end of 2020, with the first car of Audi Sport, and then there will be more coming in the third decade of this millennium.

Maybe if they licensed and sold an Electric version of the Mercedes S class - they might sell a few.

At least if they are electrics - they won't need HUGE cow catcher grill on the from - so they might even look sortof good.

Build a volume seller. If the price is right, a A4 would drive it. Perhaps a Q5 if you can overcome the extra weight of an SUV.

Replacing the A8 with a tour de force EV sedan would have been a genius move, but instead we got an Avalon.

Audi needs to create/design an entirely new car for a first full EV offering, performance or not. I still feel like EV buyers are in the "look at me I have the latest and greatest tech thingie and I'm being green". I think that's why the Prius and Model S have been so successful in their respective segments as they were standalone models.
If you make an EV of an existing model, they don't get that attention without having to tell someone it's an EV or without someone having to look for the EV badge.

As Winkelmann said a Q model, but late 2020 is a fail.

The A4 would probably be the biggest seller. I think the A7 would make a cool EV too.
