Honda Eclipses Nissan Gobally
Fueled by strong demand for its fuel-efficient cars, Honda Motor Co. has overtaken Nissan Motor Co. to regain second place among Japan's automakers.

Honda built 1.79 million cars and light trucks worldwide in the first half of the Japanese fiscal year, up 6 percent from year-earlier levels, while Nissan's output fell by 12 percent to 1.52 million vehicles.

In the last fiscal year ended March 31, Nissan outsold Honda by close to 180,000 vehicles worldwide.

This year, however, a dearth of new models undermined Nissan in major markets. In the United States, its freshest models were large vehicles in segments, which suffered when gas prices rose.

Nissan expects to recover its momentum before the end of the year with the launches of the Sentra and Altima sedans.

Problem #1 = Nissan is under de facto control of Renault;

Problem #2 = Who wants to buy a Nissan built in Mexico or South Africa?

Actually Renault brought a new life to Nissan whose cars at least in the US were begining to be awful. Nissan pushed the design envelope in ways Toyota never will.

Really, how prejudice can you be? Wherever a car is made, whoever is hired to help build it must have an education high enough to get an interview and do the job they applied for. The US, Germany and Japan aren't the only places that have automobile factories.

Toughy - It's no secret many people are especially wary of cars built in Mexico and South Africa. As for Bimmers and Mercs - I'm sure this audience would prefer these cars to come off assembly lines in Germany/Europe.
