DRIVEN + VIDEO: Can The All-new, Eccentric Lexus LS Take On The Germans Who Are RULING The Large Luxury Segment?
In the large luxury sedan class, cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series seem to be the leaders of the pack. Perhaps the all-new Audi A8 can shake things up a bit but we're really intrigued to see how the all-new Lexus LS performs.

That's because the LS was the original luxury sedan that changed the game. Completely.

Today, it seems like Hyundai's Genesis has assumed that role.

Having said that, the all-new LS is here and it's going to be doing hand-to-hand combat with the likes of the S-Class and 7-Series. So, what's it really like?

In this Carwow review, the team makes sure to cover all of the necessary details and even shows us the top-spec's Mercedes-Maybach-like executive seating.

Let us know what you think, Spies!

This is the all new Lexus LS. It's got the style to stand out against the conservative looks of its German rivals, but does it have the substance to compete against the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class? I was invited to the launch to find out!

The choices in this segment are:

The one to get if you can afford it: Mercedes S Class

The ones to avoid: Audi Avalon and BMW Buick

The ones to laugh at: Jaguar XJ and Maserati Qporte

The ones to get if you can't afford a Mercedes S Class: Lexus LS, Genesis G90, Continental.

All the overwrought styling of a Lexus plus the humpy side profile of a Series 1 Panamera. Way to go, Lexus!

Lexus has their own, strong fan-base. I'm not aware of many Audi, BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche shoppers who are cross-shopping at Lexus, so no, I don't think Lexus is "taking on" these German brands.

When will Lexus learn? Those executives exude no confidence. They are standing there saying, “please like this? Please.”

Why? Because that's the only angle in which this car looks attractive?

It looks too busy and ungainly from the side. Too many roof pillars. Crazy in the rear passenger door area. I would get the Jag XJ. Maybe even an XJL. It is a very pretty car, all aluminum, light on its feet and with the 5.0 Supercharged engine it goes. Modern Jaguar cars are not from the 1960's either. No quality worries from what I have read.
