VIDEO: Do YOU Want MORE Of This Technology In YOUR Vehicle, Or LESS?
It's becoming quite clear that today's automobiles are becoming more tech-enabled. This is, really, no surprise given how much time we're spending inside of our wheels.

And with automotive infotainment systems lagging well behind the norm, it's been rather interesting to see each automaker attack the problem differently. While I don't believe there's a wrong answer, I just seem to find that my mobile phone can deliver the same functionality without much of the fuss of roaming around my vehicle's system.

That said, it hasn't stopped manufacturers from trying.

In this General Motors video, the company shows off its GM Marketplace application that's been pushed to about 2 million 2017 and 2018 GM-branded products with 4G LTE connectivity. Essentially, the purpose is to let owners hop in their ride, place orders, make reservations and more. Think of it as a convenience feature.

So, what do YOU make of it, Spies? Do YOU want MORE of this technology in your vehicle or LESS?

GM lets customers order their morning coffee with their car. Marketplace is the automotive industry’s first commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases of goods and services featuring brands such as Starbucks (Early 2018), Shell, Dunkin’ Donuts, TGI Fridays. With Marketplace, drivers can now order and pay for their favorite coffee, and much more, on the way to work with a simple tap on the dash.

If the tech makes my car "better", which includes more reliable and with a similar total cost of ownership, then fine. I look at what value does the tech provide. I'm not a fan of "tech for tech's (or marketing's) sake."

thech moves too fast to be stuck in a car that will be on road for several years. Most cell phones will outperform any car built-in tech on the day its released and that lag is ongoing... if you want to offer a service based application... make sure its actually worth the use and make it available universally ( basically means iOS and Android now) or offer a brand new phone with purchase and free upgrades with your app on it... but if its no good... you are just wasting everyones time and money.

How about a knob that says "Bass" and another knob that says "Treble"? To make any type of sound adjustment in today's cars is a nightmare, when before there was a knob dedicated for it. Now folks are so afraid of clutter that they willingly navigate through seas of menus, turn and click until they find the adjustment, when before it was a dedicated knob. We clutter ourselves so we can't see clutter. Dumb.

Less. Like a nice 1967 Pontiac GTO or 1969 Camaro.
Electronic ignition is the only thing needed. Oh yes, an AM-FM radio is required too.
