Jeep Tones Down Aero Front End And Adds 270 Turbo 4 Cylinder For 2019 Cherokee
Details are scarce at the moment from Jeep, but it claims the updated Cherokee has a more premium design inside and out, and will be more efficient than the outgoing model. We previously learned that, aside from the new face, the 2019 Cherokee will receive the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, at least in the new Wrangler. This turbocharged engine will be the new range topper and that’s not a bad thing. Currently, a 3.2-liter V6 is the most powerful engine offered. Compare the power specs and you’ll discover the turbo four has an additional 56 lb-ft of torque.

An improvement, but such a shame. The Cherokee has such an opportunity to have a clean, high end look at a value price. Think Land Rover at middle class prices. This helps, but does not get them there by any means.

Better looking but not good looking. They should have completely ditched the look not just toned it down.

The old model's look was odd. It is a Jeep and should look like one. Getting too creative with the design is a bit of a risk, but even more with an established brand with such a strong front grill in its DNA.

The Cherokee of the late 80s/early 90s had a perfect look.

I might be the only one in the world to say this, but I liked the outgoing model's styling. While odd, it was not distractingly so, and did not feel gimmicky. Would much rather have that then a lot of the unnecessary swoops and swooshes on many Lexus models today. The brand needed a model that was going to try to push the design language of a capable SUV forward, but now it's more conventional, just like the rest of the line.

On a side note, I do like the look of the new Compass. Looks very classy for the price range, especially with the contrasting colored roof. Would love to see Jeep venture to make an SRT version of the Compass with a strong turbo 6 and stout chassis.
