Targeting The Q7? Lexus LF-1 Previews Luxury Flagship With New Teaser
Lexus has previewed a large SUV coupé model ahead of its Detroit motor show reveal early next year.

The LF-1 Limitless concept takes the form of a high-riding SUV with a steeply raked rear screen, suggesting a coupé-like roofline.

Screens in the back show a conventional seating layout, while a glimpse at a screen in the front confirms that the car is at least a two-row SUV.

Lexus describes the concept as a flagship model, suggesting that the car, in production terms, would be an SUV coupé sitting above the range-topping RX, much like the positioning of the Audi Q8 in comparison with the Q7.

It will be an XL sized RX. Tweaked, but still a variation on that theme. Possible 7-seater. The idea being it will be an offering to appeal to current RX owners looking for a roomier SUV.

They are going after rover, and will be built on the new global platform. Not the RX...

@fiftysix The GTI VS Veloster is NOT apples to oranges. They are in the same segment.

@YoCarFanto Yes and they add the WRONG reputation. Everyone knows they are thinly disguised Toyotas designed for less-refined areas of the world and not for a premium customer.

@jonesharrison It makes no difference what YOU think. The FACT is that they are in the same market segment whether you like it or not. The other inconvenient truth is that in is segment, the Veloster is usually the #1 seller. But I wouldn't expect a know-it-all-know nothing like you to base your opinion on fact anyway.

The LX and the GX are ANCIENT and not designed as premium machines but as Third-World specials tarted up to pretend to be premium. The horrible GX has to go. The sooner its replaced the better. The LX doesn't sell well enough to take seriously. If anything they should replace it with an SUV based off the Sequoia.

Why would the GX needs to go if it sold better than last year, and the years before? There are a market out there for body on frame luxury SUV. LX despite its price, sold at a very respectable number at 500-600 a month. The same thing can be said for MB G-Glass.

Go to Dubai, Doha, Saudi Arabia, most of the 4/x are GX and LX. That really "third world".

The GX sells with an absurd amount of money on the hood. Dynamically, if you compare it to a Mercedes GLS, it's like driving a Mercedes versus a Yugo. As for the LX, 500 a month is NOT respectable.

@jonesharrison, you're an illogical idiot. The Veloster consistently sells 25-30K units a year, which is more than the Miata and 86 combined and in the same affordable sports car segment. It also sells as well or better than the GTI. The GX outsold Genesis? Whoa! Hey guess what? As long as you like apples-to-oranges comparisons, the Camry outsold the Porsche 911. I also won't bother to tell you that the Veloster's buyer demographic is very similar to that of the Mini Cooper, so not only is it selling well, it's attracting the right people.

These are not volume cars. GX and LX add reputation to the brand. Have you watched Narcos (Netflix)?, this was filmed some years ago (2015) in Colombia using Land Cruisers and Nissan Patrols from the 80's & 90's which are still in perfect operating conditions. These cars are body-on-frame SUV's with very reliable engines which will last 400K miles and will protect the entire occupants during a crash. No need to be replaced with something cheaper.

I'd bet $100 this "SUV coupe" will essentially be a wider, longer version of the NX.

How would the bottom-of-the-line NX produce a flagship? Did you mean RX? If so, I agree.

This design would work well as a future RX, though with the market shift away from sedans, an LS alternative in the form of a crossover would make sense.
