Lexus Moves Downstream By Cutting Features And Price By $7450 On RX 450h
The Lexus RX 450h will become cheaper in the near future, with the base price starting at $46,690.

This makes it more affordable than the current model by $7,450, but there's a big catch, because Toyota's luxury brand has also dropped some extensive equipment from the standard list, CarsDirect reports, after confirming the change with a Lexus spokesperson.

Is this a sign of lagging sales for the RX 450H?

More likely a repositioning given the introduction of the MegaRX 3-row. The 3-row model will likely become the one the majority buys, so repositioning the current one makes a massive amount of sense.

Sales lag on all hybrids by the way.

It all comes out in the wash. The features they are removing are likely features buyers will want anyway so the out the door prices won't change. The only impact will be/might be to have more buyers come in the door thinking it's a bargain, then realizing your'e getting a stripped car for the price.

Probably the majority of Lexus buyers, 65+ years old, do not want those features: leather seating, moon roof, etc.

I disagree. If those buyers didn't want amenities or luxury touches, then they wouldn't go to a luxury car dealership in the first place. They would go get a Toyota Highlander.

Lexus buyers have already "moved up" from Toyota cars/SUV's and the Toyota dealership experience. Also, I "drive a Lexus" prestige.

Hybrid sales continue to grow as it has become available across models and with modest price upgrades. Look around and you will see hybrid models are very common on the roads. More and more people are sick of low MPG SUV's. RX continues to be the market leader.
