VIDEO: A Porsche 911 Reimagined By Singer — Is THIS Your Idea Of The Ultimate 911?
If there's a video series I look forward to, it's Petrolicious. The people behind the video channel just seem to "get it."

Look no further than the stories of enthusiasts waking up early to take their rides on spirited drives and the way these segments are filmed. It's not about a product. It's about the bond between man and machine.

I have no problem admitting that one or two clips have taken me aback and made me feel something. The immense waves of nostalgia brought me back to my first automotive experiences.

Having said that, the latest clip dives into the story of Indiana-based Matt Euson and his Singer Vehicle Design Porsche 911. Largely considered the ultimate Porsche 911 by the enthusiast community, I wanted to share this video with you all to see what the AutoSpies consensus was.

What say you, Spies? Is Singer producing the BEST Porsche 911s today?

Follow Petrolicious into the heartland of America as we pay a visit to Indiana to meet Matt Euson and his Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer Vehicle Design. Whether it’s a quick jaunt to the office, picking up the kids from football practice, or tearing through the secluded snakes of tarmac outside of town, this 911 is driven as it was built to be.

If you have a classic 911, and you have the resources to make it the best version of your car, ever, then Singer can do that. But at up to US$500,000 for a car, you better have deep pockets. Singer makes your car handle and perform better than new, with show-worthy components and interior and exterior treatments. Even the engine bay is show-worthy.

I'm a 911 fan, but I'd rather have a new, custom configured 911 Turbo at half that price.

You make a completely valid point.

The economics make the Singer seem ridiculous; however, it is truly perfect automobile, top to bottom, and that can't be said for many vehicles on the road — aside from, off the top of my head, the McLaren F1, which costs upwards of $10 million these days.

The Singer is for those with deep pockets/OCD and seeking absolute perfection. You either get it or you don't.

A quote worth preserving for prosperity! :-) BTW, you describe the founder to a T. He's obsessive about the tiniest details, and his clients love him for it.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Old school looks, modern tech made to your personal specifications. You can keep up with new machines but never go out of style. What's not to like.

Singer is a fantastic operation. I just wish they'd do a 914-6 resurrection. I don't have a love affair with the 911 at all, but the 914-6 and the 944 were examples of Porsche being wonderfully outside the box and really doing it well.

Matt

Why don't you do this on a larger scale? You already have the infrastructure, resources and knowledge...

I've put several "reproduction" 914-6s on the road. That's an easy conversion. Almost as easy is dropping a Chevy LS V8 into a 944. We've done a few of them too because 944s are easy to find--no one wants them--then with the V8, suddenly people are interested. Nothing we've done is even remotely to the level of Singer and going from remanufacturing to manufacturing would be a prohibitive expense. Access to body shops and mechanics make a lot of things doable. The TVR Tasmin 2.3 Ecoboost conversion we did is a total blast to drive.

Matt

What is the driving dynamics and balance like with a V8 944? I love the 944 and always wanted to do a build project like this for a beater track car as I cant think of a more fun per dollar than one of these builds. 944's are cheap and 5.0 are plentiful and easily boosted to suicide numbers. Aside from new motor mounts what else is involved with the transplant?

A 944 V8 conversion kit is readily available and if you go with an aluminum V8, there is no weight penalty. If you've ever driven a stock 944, it's an incredibly well-balanced car. The power of the V8 messes with that because in essence you've doubled the horsepower, so you can make a 944 get unruly as hell if you want.

It's a pricey conversion but not ridiculous in complexity.

The last one we did had the excellent balance of the 944, but with gobs more power. Imagine a 944 with the V8 burble of a Corvette. Parts will be in the $10-15K range depending on how crazy. I'd suggest looking into a good brake upgrade because the 944 isn't current anymore obviously. Then there's labor. If you have access to a body shop, mechanics, and can get parts at cost, even better.

Oh and if you're thinking about using a 924 because it's the same as a 944, the answer is that they aren't. The 944 has some specific differences that make it more rigid and more stout.

Thanks Matt for the pointers and no I wouldn't touch the 924 even if it were free. Did you upgrade the rear end or stick with the factory unit?

The Jag XK-E is also available elsewhere with the same full treatment.

Now mainline manufacturers are (Jaguar, Aston, etc) are recreating exact originals from the past. Personally I prefer the restomod versions with modern tech.

The DB4GT that Aston Martin has done is a brilliant move. $1.5M USD each, you can do a short run each year, slightly different than that last. DB4GT, DB4GTS, DB4GT Superleggera, DB4 Zagato, etc. Even shorter runs of more extreme or special versions. All track only. No worries about safety or road MOT licensing rules. Absolutely authentic from the factory and brought into the world of today.
