Why Did Tesla's Model 3 NOT Win The MotorTrend Car Of The Year?
Mo·torTrend·ing — /'mod?r/'trenDiNG/ — (Verb): To exalt, support, popularize and/or endorse inferior products based on ad revenue, or the expectation of ad revenue. To omit context and/or data which might deter advertisers. To publish data rather than information, at the expense of educating readers. See also: "Pulling Punches."

You may not have heard of MotorTrending, but if you've consumed media that claims to review products of any kind, you've probably been a victim of it. MotorTrending wasn't invented by Motor Trend, but among automotive media, it is best characterized by it.

I think the article broke it down pretty well. It is probably still way too early for the 3 to be up for any sort of award since so few have been made, but it should have won on many of the categories it was evaluated on vs. the Guilia.

I dont get the hype of the Teslas. Sure I get the EV - but by looks alone, it looks like a sub $20K car.

I see one every day not and couldn't disagree more. The Model S still looks better, but the 3 looks great from almost any angle.

My guess is the folks at MotorTrend didn't base their opinions on the media's fawning all over the Model 3.

It's not the 'media' but the lying liberal media that fawns over Tesla. It is their poster boy for green vehicles. Of course, they totally ignore the inescapable fact that EV's are powered by coal and oil powered generators. But that is only an inconvenient fact for wing nut Al Gore and the rest of the lame brain liberals.

Not in California, where most of them are sold.

How is this even a question? A subpar car that has failed to meet expectations, quotas, etc etc this let alone forgetting about the serious quality issues from rushing it into production

Why?

Well, how could any other automobile triumph over the excellence and prowess of the Alfa Romeo Guilia?

The same question was asked in 1983 when Motor Trend crowned the Renault/AMC Alliance as its car of the year.

The Model 3 simply isn't significant.

ROFL.

Just shows you can trust MD to pick the only reason that is completly wrong.

@Haureg The Model 3 isn't significant. As an entry level EV, the Leaf, Bolt, Spark EV, 500e, eGolf, and so on have already done the populist EV thing.

Has Tesla bought MT advertising?
Did Tesla offer up a test vehicle?
Did MT purchase a reservation?

TESLA DOESN'T ADVERTISE.

Case closed. Please stop asking this question.

Didn't think it needed explaining. If you don't advertise, you aren't likely to get their "awards".
