"Chrome" Lexus IS 250 Unveiled at Sydney Show

Lexus's Austrailian aftermarket team went arse over tit for 50 Cent's chrome Lamborghini, to paraphrase today's press release. So much so that the accessory squad worked up a chrome-like IS250 for the Oz market. It's layered in Alsa Corp.'s MirraChrome paint, a reflective formulation that contains microscopic bits of shiny metal, giving it the look of chrome without the six-figure bodyshop bill. In production since earlier this year, the special IS also gets Lexus factory add-ons including a body kit comprising front lower spoiler, side skirts, rear lower skirt and trunk spoiler, and polished alloys. If you happen to find yourself on that side of the globe, you can check it out at the Sydney show, right next to the AC/DC-themed fried-out combi display.

That paint job is just begging to get this car stolen by white trash people or other people from the "hood".

Nah, white trash won't touch a Lexus. First off, you can't go hunting in a Lexus, no where to put the deer when you kill it. Second, can't go mudd'n in one, breaks to easy in mud and rough terrain. :)

By people from the "hood" I'm assuming you're referring to blacks?

I expect those kind of blatant generalizations to come from MB owners (who have a right to be arrogant), not owners of a knockoff Toyota luxury brand.

Not Blacks. I'm talking about those people who would do this kind of paint job to their 1993 Civic. Some of those may include blacks, but also whites. I wasn't being racist. The people from the "hood" by where I live would do something like that to their car.

I like it, but I think the F1 Mercedes team had that chrome plate way before 50.

The chrome-look on Mercedes' racing cars dates back to the 1930s. Some racecar was too heavy so the engineers shaved off the paint and the Silverpfeil (spelling?) was born. That's the short version. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

It would be much nicer with chrome wheels too. I don't like those black wheels!

Weird...

Lexus fans don't like it, but I think it's cool?

Is the world coming to an end?

Truth be told, this color, those rims and that body kit make it look like the owner is a ricer.

True. And I'm sure it is owned by a ricer.

But by the way, that's the standard IS bodykit.

Correction to a previous post, the "chrome" Mercedes you mentioned from they're racing days were the legendary "Silver Arrows". You were correct in stating that the paint was removed to reduce weight, however the skin underneath was aluminum or steel, not chrome.
