Mercedes Trademarks GLB - Are You Ready For A Rough And Tumble Little Brother To The G-Class?
The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be available with three powertrain options when launched in 2019 as a rugged small SUV to sit beneath the G-Class, and more road-biased SUVs in the brand's lineup.

Recent trademark filings suggest that 200, 220 and 250-badged variants of the GLB will be available, with engines shared with the smaller Mercedes-Benz offerings like the A-Class and CLA.

This will be an interesting model. Rumored to be a mini-GLS in exterior proportions. Hopefully the overall trim packages won't be weird.

This article is confused or MB is confused. If it is slotted between the GLA and GLC, then why is this the "little brother" of the G? Also, G is a BOF, while GLC is crossover, so how can a BOF is priced below a crossover?!

Does MB even have a small BOF to make a GLB?

Besides the similar look to the G, there is NOTHING similar between the GLB and G.

Makes sense to me. The "little brother" relationship is based on the platform and function of the vehicle, not necessarily where it falls in a lineup. At least that's how I see it.

Regarding available platforms, Benz has relationships from where they could borrow. Not that I'm a fan of that, but the X-Class immediately comes to mind.

From a styling perspective, it will be interesting how they approach this. They already moved away from the boxy styling of the previous GLK and they certainly shouldn't approach this as a 8/10 version of the G, as that would essentially be a Jeep Wrangler.

Hope the final design is this rugged looking but doubt it. With so many different sizes and variations the engineering talent has to be spread thin at some of these companies and parts going forward will likely be extremely expensive and very hard to find as time goes on.

So kinda like the Jeep Renegade? Be interesting to see how it will or can be priced between GLA & GLC??
Instead, I’d love to see a cheaper G wagon.

A cheaper G aimed at the Wrangler would be the smarter move.

It's supposed to be LGBTQ not GLB.
