TRUMPED: FCA To Move Ram Heavy Duty Pickup Production From Mexico To US

FCA will invest more than $1 billion to modernize a Michigan truck plant to produce the next-generation Ram Heavy Duty pickup, which will be shifted from Saltillo, Mexico, starting in 2020.

The investment at the Warren, Mich.., assembly plant follows plans detailed in January 2017 to expand the factory to build all-new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs.

The company said the Saltillo truck assembly plant will be repurposed to produce future commercial vehicles for global markets.

Ya gotta love all the spin doctors these days. FCA's intent all along was to move this production to this plant as part of a several year plant upgrade and re-positioning. Announced a couple of years ago. Demise of Dart and 200 were just part of this as they were supposed to go out of USA but then sales volume didn't warrant spending dollars to move them. Old news ...... move along.

That is right on the money @Vette71. As well while the US is being a pain about NAFTA, you can see even from this article how integrated the production of cars and trucks are across the USA, Mexico and Canada.

For those who read the article and just did not react to the title, FCA is not leaving Mexico. They are moving around models and production sites. Large commercial vehicles will be made in the Mexican plant and exported to global markets. Being so much closer to the Panama Canal, it is much better suited to produce models that are sold globally.
