Motorcyclist Sues GM Self After Self Driving Car Crashes Into Him Avoiding Another Vehicle

All it take is one lawsuit loss by an automaker for the flood to start. Software in general is far from perfect.

Noting that the San Francisco PD determined that the motorcycle was attempting to pass on the right - and was assigned responsibility for the accident where the Bolt aborted a lane change - this will eventually go nowhere for the cyclist. Knowing that they likely have plenty of recorded information about the accident also helps as well.

But it should be noted - that while an Autonomous car will always obey the law - human drivers regularly try to pass on the right - which is almost always illegal. The autonomous car would assume that the lane is still vacant from where it started its lane change and then aborted it - because the cyclist should not have tried ITS maneuver.

Nope. Given all the litigation that WILL happen, insurance is more likely to skyrocket.
