What Car Have You Owned That Gave YOU The Most Problems?
Ah, a lack of reliability. No, we’re not talking about your friends or employees, but cars. Whether it’s a reliable Toyota or something German, if you’ve been driving for any extended period over a number of different vehicles, you’ve likely got a story about unreliability.

Today you get a chance to let it all out — tell us the tale of the most unreliable vehicle you’ve ever owned. We’ve got the tissues handy.

My second car was a brand new (At the time) 2001 VW Jetta I had in high school. It was in the shop 18 times in the 11 months I had it. The windows would fall off the track into the door every time the door was closed. Mold was growing in the A/C. The transmission was wonky. It was 100% a lemon, but VW North America fought me tooth and nail on it and just wound up selling it.
My current car, a 2016 Mercedes E400 Cabrio is the runner up. Nothing too major. Lots of squeaks and rattles and electrical issues like the radio not turning on and the top deciding to freeze halfway through the up/down movement.
I've learned that I'm 100% a BMW guy.

i have a disgusting taste in my mouth from VW. I had a 2007 GTI that i putchsed with 23k miles. 2 days after purchasing it, the head gasket went. About 1.5 years later, it went again. The first time, the car was covered and the second time, the car was out of warranty with approx 60k miles. My guess was that the car was previously modified due to douchey tintibd taillamps and an unsecured intake pipe/ airbox. So I cannot put the blame 100% on VW but sprinkle in approx 6-8 replaced ignition coils over the course of the brief ownership tenure and you have a brand that i do not ever want to be associated with again!

My GMC Denali pick up was endless plagued with problems. It was ultimately taken back by GMC as unfixable (computer problems prevented engine from starting and transmission problems).

My 2002 Toyota Solara and 1998 Lexus GS by far had the most problems of any cars I've owned. Both had so many nightmare issues with the electrical, mechanical and even reliability. I bought both of them new and thought there should't be any problems you might get buying a used one but was I wrong and it left a real sour taste in mouth for Toyota and Lexus cars after these really bad experiences.

I don't know if it is fair to say that one - since I had so many cars that had over 100,000 miles on them WHEN I bought them. However - on the flip side - I had a new X car - a Pontiac Phoenix 4 door hatch- that had a single problem when it was delivered - a defective fuel filter that restricted flow - that took a while to find. (The gas tank was always clean). However - that car lasted 477,000 miles before it went to the yard. I have learned NOT TO JUDGE based on one car - because you are less likely to get another lemon. I also have learned that the smaller dealers with the experienced service departments are the one that never let it get to the level of a lemon law buyback - because they take the time to fix the cars.

I am a huge Mercedes fan but the worst car I have ever owned was a 2010 Mercedes ML350. I tell people it must have been built at the Vance, Alabama plant on the first Friday morning of hunting season!

Electrical problems, check engine problems, "safety system" problems. I kept it three years and then the thing that pushed me over the edge was when some combo of traction control and stability control automatically jammed on the brakes only when I was making a left turn in front of traffic. Freakin' scary.

It went back to the dealer three times (warranty) and it was fixed for a couple of weeks but then it kept happening. Finally I traded it (10,000 miles on it) for a 2013 MB GL350 Bluetec which is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Just love it.

The stealer (MB of Southampton, NY) put it on sale as a CPO and it lasted a week on the site before they fobbed it off on someone.

Oh, that's easy 1992 Audi 200 Quattro; $42,000 new and everything that could break, broke twice. The final episode took place on the way back from a ski trip when my Son started screaming that the back seat was on fire. The seat warmers overheated... Next day it was gone. Never Audi again!!!

I've been very lucky. My first two cars I don't count because they were both worn out when I bought them. My wife however hates VW more than I do. She had a Jetta TDI that had a transmission failure under 20K miles, blown head gasket a few thousand later, non-stop electrical issues. Never again VW.

I have been left stranded at the side of the road twice by one brand: VW. First one was a rental Golf: electric fan while in Maracaibo, Venezuela with Texas summer weather all year long. Second one was another golf, broken clutch wire. No VW's for me.

Oldsmobile 99 Intrigue worst ever.
Toyota 98 Sienna going on 20 years with only minor repairs and routine maintenance.

Actually I did not own it, since it was a company leased car.
Clear #1: Mercedes C200 Bluetec, T model W205, Dec 2014:
The 12th visit at the dealer was the first regular service. And it kept happening after that.

Excerpt from the list: shutting down engine when accelerating hard because fuel pump pressure was 1.3% too low. (Almost crashed when that happen for first time). All brake disc gone sub 40.000km. Turbo defective. 2 weeks later: turbo defective. Clutch started dying at 36.00pkm, new one dead at 97.000. wiper motor unit dead. And again. And broke again. „Door/mirror software“ (yes, thats a thing) . And again. Distance radar errors. Ultrasound sensor errors. Trunk lid construction error, changed in production, but never fixed. hilarious Navigation software errors, many updates, never really ok. Whole control unit w buttons for climate control, Etc. dead, replaced, but still failing from tome to time, doors on left side never closed as well as the ones on the right side. Inconsistent tire wear.
Many more I am too upset to check my log.

Now Driving a new C200 T with the 9speed automatic and Avantgarde interior since Dec 2017 and this car feels like a completely different one.
Although: Bluetooth communication playing audio from iphone is a challenge, and the bluetooth lag when connected to iPadPro is so bad, you cannot use it to fiddle around with GrageBand.

Most issues I had with a car was with a SAAB 9000 - ever since... never again.. no surprise when they closed down. Next an old Audi A6 - could never find what was wrong with it!. Then I had a bunch of silly electrical issues with a 99 E320 Mercedes.
