Sinister Looking 2019 Mid-Engined Corvette Caught In Best Spy Shot Yet

The next-generation American supercar will trade the front-engined layout of the C7 for a better-balanced mid-engine setup. Reports suggest this adjustment will come alongside the introduction of a boosted eight-cylinder engine.

The impact the new layout has had on the car's bodyshape can be seen clearly in our latest pictures; the C8 has a shorter nose and longer rear section, complete with a pair of buttresses – evidence of its more balanced packaging.

Can't wait to see this car in all its mid-engined glory.

A mid-engine C8 is all fine and dandy, but has any Corvette buyer ever asked for this? Did they ever once say to anyone in a dealer, the Z06 or ZR-1 is great, but I really want a mid-engine car to drive. With current sales far below their peak even though the C7 is a brilliant car, I am not sure what this will do for the brand.

As I've said before, GM should make Corvette a BRAND to be sold next to Cadillac with the mid-engined "Zora", the front-engined Stingray, and a Macan challenging Corvette Manta Ray.

While I agree with Corvette to become a separate SUB-Brand - we do not need more brands on the market. I do not see a pure Performance Brand being needed at Cadillac - they have the V-Series - and are the High End Luxury oriented Brand at GM. WHile there was a time that Pontiac filled the "performance brand" name - we no longer have Pontiac. Stay at Chevy.

I am also not sure that the market has shown an interest in having more than one Corvette "platform" yet. Unless they price the Mid-engine WAY above the base Corvette - why choose the front engine over the rear? But current trends say that a Corvette based Crossover would sell - but WOULD it actually be Corvette Based? (Yes - I know that the Porsche is not a Porsche either). Frankly - I suspect an Alpha based crossover would do better as a CAMARO.

First of all, nobody - outside the confines of the GM execs - thought this project would actually get the "green light" anyway. At least not this soon.

Some of the thinking was - an AWD or mid-rear engine Corvette model would become serious if & only if the traditional setup was completely failing in the market. With all the new automotive advances in tech & increasing number of rear-engine competitors, a rear-engine Corvette is right for this time period. There are plenty of interested consumers - with the coin - to buy up all the Year-1 production copies.

Sure has a big ass. Need to slim that down some which should be easy with a pushrod V8. Turbo V6 would be a nice option as well for the base car.

It's already better looking than an Audi R8.
