SPIED: All-new Cadillac CT5 — FIRST Spy Shots Show What’s Coming Down The ‘Pike

Over the past decade we’ve been doing what we do best, watch the luxury sector. There’s been an interesting array of happenings but one thing is certain: The sport-utility vehicle is dominating.

And when it comes to General Motor’s Cadillac, the Escalade is king. But after all of these years, it’s sort of tough to think that the marque has only had one insanely great idea.

So, we ask, what’s next?

After getting a glimpse of things like the Ciel and Elmiraj, one would hope that the sophistication and design language from those products would become real. Well, they haven’t. The latest concept we’ve seen is called the Escala. And after waiting a bit of time it appears the next-gen Cadillac sedan is undergoing research and developmental testing.

Dubbed the CT5, it appears to have a fastback-style design a la the Escala. In addition, you’ll note that it sports more squinted headlights and a rather large, omnipresent front grille.

Like all concepts, we’re sure the concept will get diluted when it gets translated into reality; however, it’s going to be interesting to see to what degree. Here’s to hoping for the best.

Unless it has breakout styling and advantageous pricing, it will die. Call it Seville. Base it at $37.5K with the "V" coming in at $55K and you have a winner.

Reskin the CT6. Call it Escala. Base it at $45K with $60K for "V" level and you'd have a possibility for success.

I happen to like Cadillacs when I drive them, but they are boring to look at and have boring names.

Agree completely. This car really needs to have break out style and beauty as well as value to put it on as many shopping list as possible. It really needs to be emotional, compelling and gorgeous as we’ve seen whats possible from their concepts. Fully agree it should be called Seville as well, as the original was also a breakthrough car. (no comments necessary that it was nova based, we all know that but at that time that was not a bad thing and the original was a sensation). CT5 is just a crappie designation, it’s not a name it sounds like a build code. Breakout Cadillac and pull a fast one, pleasantly surprise us!

AS I have said repeatedly - Cadillac needs to offer slightly larger cars to their customers compared to the imports.

I would price the ATS against the CLA - where the ATS comes off as a much better car.

I would then Put the CT5 up against the 3 series in price - but actually be closer to a 5 series in size - and call it "CIEL"

The replacement for the CT6 should be the "Seville" - the Seville was never a small car.

At that leaves the El Miraj as the name for the Top of the LIne Rolls/Maybach fighter. IT actually fits in with the Rolls names of "spirits"..

Note - I really really hope that they do not make the cars Hatchbacks like the Escala - that is a non-starter for a premium Luxury car.

You are wrong two ways when you say "the Seville was never a small car" because when it was introduced, it was dramatically smaller than other Cadillacs and then after the ugly bustle-butt Seville got canned, the Seville became absurdly small for a Cadillac which only made the even smaller Cimarron all the more shocking.

I'm really fearful that Cadillac took the Escala concept and toned it down significantly. What are we going to get? Probably something that will look like Cadillac's version of the Infiniti Q50. I hope not, but that's my gut on this one. Especially with Whats-His-Name in charge, I don't anticipate much.

You're getting a vehicle that looks like the CTS that it was probably going to be in the same way that new Audis and BMWs look no different from the cars they replace.

Hopefully this car will be a smaller CT6 as that car is significant w/it’s build technology. I very much appreciate the CT6 (should be called Fleetwood) but wish it was more gorgeous. Hopefully this new CT5( should be called Seville) is more than the CT6, and a dramatic next step. I’ll be buying one but replacing the CT5 badge w you know what...

Apparently a coupesedan based on the CT6 will be introduced as the Cadillac Escala. Could it be that Cadillac is coming to its senses?
