Is Lamborghini Shedding New Light On The All-new Urus' Design Or Is It STRETCHING Reality?
I was flipping through my Instagram, as any millennial does these days, and I ran across an all-new post by my local Lamborghini dealer. It featured the cover image you see below with both an LM002 and the all-new Urus, side by side.

Obviously, this gives you a great side profile perspective of both sport-utility vehicles that are quite different in terms of design. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the difference between the blocky, three-piece design of the LM002 and the more fluid, yet angular, Urus.

But then I noticed the highlighted bits, which was weird.

According to the post by the Head of Design for Lamborghini, these are bits that Lamborghini said are part of the company's DNA. The dealer said it was shared design language.

Erm, really?

That said, I'll let you be the judge, Spies. Is Lamborghini shedding new light on the all-new Urus' design or is it STRETCHING the truth for marketing purposes?

It's trying to justify a failed Lambo design. The Urus' front end is especially horrible with its tuning fork decorations.

I absolutely agree. It has ZERO Lamborghini DNA.

What does Lamborghini DNA mean?

They did exactly what Porsche did with the Cayenne - but in this case they took the headlight design off a Huracan and stuck it on an SUV. They just did it better and came up with a cooler looking vehicle.

As for the LM002 - that looked like a joke and I can't see any need to harvest any design cues off that thing.

Porsche used a caricature of the whole 911 for the Cayenne. This is just some angular lights on an Audi.

Dude, the Cayenne is a Touareg with minor mods. This isn't that complicated.

Dude, the first Cayenne was a Touareg + a 911 caricature.

I Reckon it's a marketing stunt. You can compare almost any two vehicles side by side and connect a few dots... The original LM002 never featured during the development teasers etc. as far as I recall. Now that sales need to happen, this suddenly appears. The drawing was probably done by the marketing department is my guess

Hello please put on your glasses, note the highlighted areas in yellow. That is DNA reference with the Gandini signature wheel openings which began with the LP500.

So, I could take a Mitsubishi Mirage and a Ferrari 812 and as long as I superimpose the same yellow lines, I have matching styling DNA?

Agreed with Matt here.

Gandini wheel openings and a Porsche Cayenne Turbo on steroids does not equate to a Lamborghini.

The exercise is a bit pointless. Bottom line is that @Foncool is correct and this type of wheel arch opening is part of the Lamborghini brand DNA. I think the image is more to appeal to trolls who hate Lamborghini for making an SUV and for making this one based on the VW platform. As your Mom will tell you, the people who matter (buyers) don't mind and those who mind (trolls) don't matter. It will still sell out even if it is a bunch of angles and sloped backed with no luggage space. A revised LM002 would have been the ticket! Maybe it will still happen...

Revised LM002 is definitely not going to happen.

A modern-day Miura was more likely — hell, it even did the concept — and the folks in charge said no way, we look forward and not back.

And that was to their detriment because a new Miura would have sold like Camrys.

@AgentOOR - As they could drop the V12 into "something" I would still like to think they could do a crazy dune buggy SUV for the EMEA region. And whoever else likes having a Rambo Lambo in the driveway. Call it all new, make it a homage to the past. Just charge $500k and watch them sell. Maybe even win Paris-Dakar with it!

I'd have been inclined to believe this Touareg is a Lamborghini if it came with the V10 and the V12 as an option.
