Greed And Corruption Could Deal The Death Blow To The UAW
The UAW's traditional tactics of walkouts, sit-ins and strikes can't help it fight the latest threats to its fading influence.

The union, already weakened by the proliferation of foreign auto plants in the South, low-wage competition in Mexico and decades of factory closures on its home turf, is now reeling from a haymaker delivered by its own leadership: a $4.5 million corruption scandal reigniting complaints that the UAW has gotten too cozy with company executives.

Time to ban Unions as they are nothing more than business cancer. This mafia business model forcefully extorts Union dues from the membership and tells them how to vote. Today's modern day labor regulations negate the need for Unions and offers ample protection to the workers at least in Canada and the US. Isn't it funny how NONE of the Union heads ever divulge their massive 6 figure salaries are. What are they hiding?

I agree.

Unions were created when there was an absence of laws protecting workers, but those laws are now in place.

No worker should be forced to belong to a union. We need a 50-state, right-to-work law.

No union should be allowed to direct any money or effort toward political action because that if an obvious conflict of interest.

Unions should be restricted ONLY to negotiating contracts because everything else is a conflict of interest.

All unions should have to live by a yearly vote by the membership for confidence and if a majority votes "nay" the union is decertified.

American unions have been closely allied with organized crime--if nothing else--that should be their death knell.

Something else to consider, public sector unions. Talk about conflict of interest. Especially corrupt organizations like the Chicago Teacher's Union. The Worst Of The Worst™.

The irony of teachers unions is that they do absolutely nothing to protect teachers, but teachers are forced to pay horrendous dues which are then funneled to the DNC. If teachers unions were so good, why are class sizes so high? Why are deadbeat teachers protected? Why are teachers paid so poorly?

Unions simply are no good for the members they purport to serve.

In California, it is legal for teachers to conceal and carry IF there is an agreement with the district. The local teachers overwhelmingly support C&C, but the union is raising a massive stink. They tired to do a show of force at a board meeting to protest C&C and only the 4 members of the board were there. Wah....wah...wah. A union meeting was inundated with teachers wanting C&C and unicorns shit their pants. Meanwhile, across the state, not only are teachers in danger at schools, so are students. Yes, this crisis stems 100% from people mixing bodily fluids and making humans, but then being absentee from conception on. But police officers and fire fighters also feel abandoned by their unions as well. I have my C&C and am perfectly OK with people being aghast, but I don't belong to any union and I am thankful for that.

It's ironic that Unions were first created to fight the corrupt, self-serving, exploitive powers of business owners to used humans as near slave labor (do your own research into work conditions before labor unions were organized).

Today, labor unions themselves are typically corrupt, employing goons and thuggery, and failing to even bargain in good faith while the upper echelons of unions enjoy a lavish life of luxury, kickbacks, and shady dealings.

The "saviors" have become as corrupt and exploitive as the "enemy" they once opposed.

Which is why restricting unions solely to contract negotiation and making all 50 states right-to-work is the best solution.

That of course would further decimate the Democrats' power base.

Sorry Matt - but none of what you said is going to happen nor is it the best solution if it is any solution- so BABBLE on - YOU really do that well.

With the almost complete loss of Retirement pensions - along with further pass alongs for other things - the need for Union has not truly diminished. YEs - they need to be reformed - but then so does the ALT-right who continue to adamantly protect the right of Terrorists to get an assault weapon without a background check.

@TomM In California, the folks in Sacramento are currently in talks with the California Teachers Association--and other public employee unions--to allow them to default on all of the pensions for teachers, fire fighters, and police officers in the state. The need for a union has evaporated because unions no longer represent the membership.

And yes, TomM, banning all guns will instantly wipe away all the crime. Yup!

I just read that the UAW (Yes....the UAW) is organizing the non-professional ranks at our universities. Now, that is a very interesting twist. Let's see how the liberal professionals of the academic world take to this loss of control over how their universities operate.

Only 11% of all U.S. workers are unionized but 36% of all government workers are unionized. In NY State, one of if not the highest taxed state (aka Democrats),
40% of all workers are unionized...a formula for disaster down the road.

MDaranged, we are the only country in the top 22 economies that does not have pensions by law and universal health care. All those hypocrite christian right fascist that support the republican alt.fascist party are doing so to their own detriment.
You talk about high taxes, but the education level in the low tax "red states" is horrible. Perhaps this is why the keep voting republican.

Oh, and it is complete BS that C & C will solve problems, it will only exacerbate them. For those from red states or Trupm supports, that means make it worse.

You are deranged! Our Fed Gubment should be slashed it’s a bloated beast that sucks the life out of the taxpaying producers! No one should get free anything or pensions unless you’d like to share your savings? Didn’t think so you’d rather take someone else’s savings? Oh and school choice NOW but I suppose that’s one “choice” you’re not in favor of...
