#NYIAS: Genesis Promises A Copernican Shift In Brand Perception

Genesis has announced that it will unveil an all-new concept vehicle at the New York Auto Show next month – and is already making some bold statements about it.

Company boss Manfred Fitzgerald broke the news to CNET, stating that the concept could alter people’s perception of the carmaker.

“We’ll show something at the New York show. If you happen to be in town, you should not miss this one,” Fitzgerald said.

Maybe someone should advise Manfred that concepts don't create or change perceptions, productions cars do.

Skinny lights, grid pattern on the wheels and pillar.

Can I cancel my trip to NY now?

I don't know. I wouldn't write them off so fast like that. They have the money and may be able to inject more soul to new SUVs like this. Also, the sedan from the article does not look bad by taking good cues from Lexus.
I'd be taking note if I were Acura or Infiniti.

Yes - and Infiniti or Acura are just the market they will get - neither are true high end premium brands - they are lucky to be second tier.

The problem remains - these are still Korean cars - and it will take DECADES for them to build a reputation for prestige - the one thing they cannot manufacture themselves - even if their cars are good. The buyers will still be looked on as those too cheap to buy the real thing. And if that is the message you want portrayed - buy a Genesis - because that is what people will think. People who want a car to be seen in - will not buy a genesis.

Wasn't that sedan in the picture what ended up being the G70? Not exactly anything special.

Manfred is sharp, came through the VW ranks, was the right hand to Winkleman at Lamborghini. Let’s see which model of launching a new brand he follows, the one every car company uses or the one Toyota used for Lexus.

Meh, they might throw something together that could get some acura, buick or lincoln buyers but that's it.
