Ford North American President Canned For Inappropriate Behaviour

Nair, who has been president of Ford North America since 1 June 2017, has been with the organisation since 1987, in the past holding several key roles such as head of global product development and chief technical officer.

The internal investigation found that the 53-year-old had exhibited “certain behaviour… inconsistent with the company’s code of conduct” and he has been removed from his post with immediate effect.

1 - We really do not know what the man did - and that alone has everyone speculating.

However - in some ways I believe this had gone too far. The idea that - for instance - it is sexual misconduct for a man to compliment a female employee for what she is wearing or how she looks is ridiculous. The same is the case for holding a door open for the "person" behind you. I was taught by my mother to hold the door open for the person behind me LONG before I was of any age to have it considered misconduct - and I have been accosted by people who actually think it is - I still prefer to call it proper manners.

Whether you consider woman equal to men - or take the biblical approach - they are still the opposite sex to each other - and a certain amount of small talk is not out of line (ALthough it can CROSS that line too). That has been happening with sexual being of all types for millions of years - it is part of our makeup - as well as all sexual animals.

Maybe "the workplace" should be considered a place where a little innocent flirting should be out of place. I was never that for centuries.

Typical Alt-Left response: "...We really do not know what the man did - and that alone has everyone speculating..." because you can hear the situational ethics, there-is-no-morality, we-mustn't-judge, rudderless commentary coming.

Cue the commentary. TomM thinks we're all just sexual beings that cannot help it. Lovely. Very Mad Men of you.

I sincerely doubt he got fired for holding the door open to a female employee.

Maybe the workplace should be considered off limits to flirting????? YA THINK???

The man stepped up and said his behavior was inappropriate. What more do we need to know. My dad always said "If you want to see a person's true character, give them power." The common theme in most of these situations is that a man in a powerful position oversteps the bounds of proper behavior because he believes he can and his victims are afraid to speak up, fearing sever repercussions. Like the old axiom, "Power corrupts and ultimate power ultimately corrupts."

As the president, he would have been at the meetings where policies like this one where discussed and approved by his leadership team. His name may have been in the announcements when they went out. He could have even appeared in internal videos about cultural sensitivity or sexual harassment in the workplace. At that level, you cannot say you did not know about the policy or where the line was drawn. Kudos to Ford for showing their staff and the world that their policies apply to everyone at the company.

Indeed. I have no patience for lack of professionalism in the workplace. People who are not professional all of the time need to be relieved of their income.

The best way to fix sexual harassment issues forever is to separate men from women in the workplace.
This is the only way whether we like it or not.
