#GIMS: With 520HP And A 7 Speed PDK, What Is There NOT To Like About The New 911 GT3 RS?
It’s finally here. After weeks of spy photos – most of which were thinly clad at best – and a very notable photo leak that we can now confirm was dead-on accurate, we have the new 911 GT3 RS in its natural, high-resolution state. The car will make its first public appearance in a few weeks at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, but its world debut is here and now, and it is glorious.

Managing the power is a seven-speed PDK gearbox that’s specially calibrated for the GT3 RS. Other updates include recalibrated rear-axle steering with 21-inch lightweight wheels wearing massive 325/30-series rubber at the back. Up front, the GT3 RS gets 20-inch wheels with 265/35-series tires. We have no idea what elastokinematic bearings are, but Porsche engineers nixed them on all suspension arms and instead use ball joints. Aerodynamic tweaks include the massive rigid rear wing, and the RS benefits from all kinds of weight reduction. Porsche doesn’t tell us exactly how much lighter this iteration of the 911 is, but it gets carbon fiber seats with lightweight door panels and reduced sound absorption, not to mention a new rear lid that’s also lighter.

@QEW - That means a lot coming from a closet racist. Stick and stones. Time to move to an open carry US state yet? I will buy the champagne. #Blaaaaah. #PDK #Hulk

CommyComments -I rest my case. I'm not racist nor am I PC and call shit as it is regardless of race. What is wrong with open carry or should the only ones with guns be the criminals and terrorists (AKA Peoplekind) in Leftardish shithole Canuckistan?

joneshamilton -I love Chicago and am opening my US office there.

@QEW. You will never get a Christmas card from me but we can agree on Chicago being a great place to visit and or set up a business. I have walked it's downtown and had dinner at phenomenal steak and lobster place when I was there on business. BTW Do not listen to comments of punk posters who always seem to forget this is a car site.

@qwertyfla1: When someone starts a sentence with “I'm not racist…”, well, you know where this is going :-/

I return you to your hysterical, paranoid Communist Hunt. Joe McCarthy would be so proud of you! :-)

And of course Social Justice Princess -TheSteve once more has to insert his moral superiority into the equation. Call me as you wish but I'm even harsher on white trash as well of which there is no shortage and precious little butt hurt snowflakes such as yourself.

@qwertyfla1: Like MDarringer and other Alt.Right-ers, all ya got up your sleeve is Denial, Deflection and Derision. Thanks for your demo (above), as well as your litany of similar posts here on AutoSpies, to provide a demo of what I speak.

By the say, since Alt.Right-ers don’t like to read (example: POTUS): “Derision” means hateful tirades, ridicule, contemptuous mockery, etc.

Denial, Deflection and Derision: The all-too-predictable ways of the Alt.Right :-(

____
Pre-emptive footnote for the intellectually challenged: Pointing at a Nazi, and calling him out as one, is *NOT* the same as being a Nazi. Ditto for spotlighting Alt.Right hate, derisions, etc.

What Is There NOT To Like About The New 911 GT3 RS, you ask. Hells bells, the PDK. This car should only come with a manual so that unskilled pansies can't buy them and crash into the rest of us.

Sorry to say - but the PDK shifts faster than you could ever do. Modern technology in automatic transmissions make them better than even us oldsters who first learned on 3 on the column.

Progress happens - get over it. I do not see you complain about having an electric starter!

PDK: Faster shifts. Quicker lap times. Never misses a shift. Left in fully automatic mode, it is nearly "telepathic" in its ability to select the right gear. Better fuel economy than a manual transmission!

But for those who prefer a stick, word on the street is that it's coming.

It's a really sweet car if you like to spend a lot of time on the track. I don't. I'd much rather have a 911 C4S, Turbo, or Turbo S... without the sport suspension, wing, etc.

What is there not to like? Let's start with the engine in the wrong place.

Lots to laugh about here. This is a car site, no? C'mon guys. Different folks, different strokes. I get that but let's talk cars. We all love 'em.

So my views on this one is that it will be materially different on track but not feel like it on road. (E.g. rubber to steel bushings are definitely better and perhaps on potholes will leave an impression but otherwise, I don't think so for anyone not using it on track.)

I drove my 991.1 RS last night for the first time since I had it sent to Sebring for 3 track days in January. It is soooo good. It truly felt like a second skin. Anyone, if you haven't tried it and you live in the Northeast, I'm happy to let you drive it on track. Just ping me.

Placed my order for the 991.2 last week and I am looking forward to it. Happy to report to anyone next year. Will probably not run it until Road Atlanta in October to allow for break-in.

Last but not least, Matt, I understand your comment and in theory, I don't disagree. But look at the output. This car runs circles around most others and for less money. Case in point, the only two cars that beat me at Sebring were track-dedicated cars (modded-ACR and Radical RXC). Yes, they left me standing still but these guys had a lot more bhp and were running slicks against my PSC2s. Not ashamed at all and had a ball! And the field of 50 cars included 488s, ACRs (not modded) and many more track-oriented tools.

You don't like them and that's ok. However, what P has managed to do is keep the benefits of rear engine placement and overcome many challenges. That's quite impressive. I have a lot of other cars I track and some are very sweet like the GT4 but none come close to it, so far. Of course, there's the new Pista but it's more than 50% more expensive...

One last thought, Matt. Any day now, I expect the 911 to move the mill slightly aft of the rear axle, as they did w/ the RSR. At least for the track toys, i.e. GT cars. That will mean something, both positive and negative. Just think how you will respond to that when it happens. My money is that we will see an RS special along those lines this year.

You're a fanboy. The 911 does NOT run circles around other cars for less money. That simply isn't a true statement.

I am a fan, no problem admitting that. There's a reason. And I run a lot of other cars on track and on the street. It's just a very competent car. You don't have to agree. It's my opinion.
