Wow - so surprising - potential felony fraud, dishonesty, and screwing consumers in Palm Beach/Ft Lauderdale/Miami Florida of all places.

Next thing we know, someone will allege that factory-sanctioned Ferrari odometer rollbacks also happened in Nassau County, Westchester County, and NYC which are other hotbeds of fair dealing!

Shocked..just shocked.

When I was young I used to roll my odometer backon my BMW not to defraud anyone but rather feel better about my car. Before digital it was quite easy to do...

Today - you need specialized computer equipment to access the odometer on most cars - because the mileage is kept in at least two places - both the dash computer and the main computer. So -even if you manage to change the dash number - the main computer will override that new number if it does not agree. You could - I guess - change the both computers - but then the cost involved would not be worth it on most cars.

WHen I rebuilt transmissions(Was a second job) - it was not unusual for a customer to ask us to disconnect the speedo cable to prevent mileage from piling up - and since that only effected the Speedo and odometer - they could get away with that most times - but today - the transmission shifts are controlled outside the trans - and if you disconnect it - your trans will not work and it will likely put your car into limp mode.

So - in order to do this it would require dealer computer servicing - or someone with really deep pockets.
