When Is Too Much? Hennessey Claims 311 MPH Top Speed for Venom F5 Hypercar

WE MAY be in an age of increasing fuel economy and tightening emissions standards but it looks like we’re also entering a new era of production car speed records after American firm Hennessey said the goal for its new Venom F5 hypercar is to hit a mind-blowing 500kph (311mph).

That would easily best the 270mph top speed hit by the Venom GT in 2014, as well as the 277.9mph record set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS in November last year. The Venom F5 would also just beat the 310mph top speed that Corbellati this week alleged is possible from its 1,800bhp Missile hypercar.

At 311 MPH how long until the tires shit the bed? Who even makes a tire for that speed rating and what does a new set of feet cost?

Watermelon balls sold separately.

I like speed and excess which is why I love TVRs, but even ridiculousness has its limits.

A set of tires could be $50k if they are able to do that speed. That is the price for a Bugatti hypercar. However, what normal 311mph tires cost? I have no idea. I would suspect the price could be far less than what Bugatti charges for a set. But you won't find them at your local tire shop anytime soon. If they are smart they would have a setting where the cars "knows" it is not at a track and limits the top speed possible. Drivers will grow to appreciate this feature as they will live longer.

Since virtually all of these cars will end up the collection of rich investors and likely never or barely see a road - what is the difference? Virtually every decent car can go faster than most of their owners will ever drive them on the road today - and that has not stopped anyone from buying them either.
