NSFW: Do FUNNY Craigslist Classifieds Help SELL Cars?
The main man behind AutoSpies, Agent 001, always is searching for interesting vehicles. While prowling the San Diego-based Craigslist, he came across a favorite of mine. Knowing this, he sent it to me. It was an E38 BMW 7-Series.

But it wasn't your standard classified ad.

Filled with expletives and allusions of grandeur, it read more like a bad Seth Rogen comedy. You know, one of those films that revolves around pot and what not.

I have to admit though, there are a few lines in here that got me to chuckle.

Having said that, I was curious: Do FUNNY classified ads work? Do they make you MORE interested in the vehicle for sale?

AutoSpies.com is NOT affiliated with the seller in ANY way. Caveat emptor, Spies!

Selling a car is all about getting the attention. I once bought an old Charger off Ebay because it was shot with bed liner and the copy made it sound like the car was used for nefarious purposes. The car is a total hoot and scares the living crap out of people on the freeway.

Unlike "TV" ads =- the idea for an owner is to get someone to SEE the ad for the car - so burying the FUNNY in the ad really should not help as much as leading with it. Most do not read the entire ad that often unless there is something that pushes their button.

On TV - there is a finer line between advertising you product and advertising a celebrity or a GAG. - QUICK -Which Hotel chain uses "Bada boom". If all that is remembered is an unrelated slogan - you wasted your AD money. The slogan "where's the beef" worked better because it at least mentioned the product. Same with "Gee boss - I always wanted to fix a transmission". A good Ad will mention the company name several times - including up front and using a LOGO that is remembered or a musical theme that can be associated helps too.
