#NYIAS: Acura Teases An All New A-Spec RDX Crossover For New York

Acura‘s all-new RDX crossover is coming to this year’s New York International Auto Show.

The new model will launch in mid-2018 and is the first in a new generation of Acura products to boast the automaker’s new design language, as well as a Precision Cockpit-inspired interior with the new True Touchpad Interface.

Aside from the car itself, Acura will also unveil a brand new spec for the RDX, called A-Spec – the very first application of the sport appearance variant to an Acura SUV. The A-Spec will boast “sport appearance detailing”, according to the Japanese automaker, both inside and out.

While I do not know what you mean by a MASSIVE HIT - in Second tier Premium Luxury Vehicles - (that is where Acura is today) - it will end up being the brands Largest selling vehicles for a while at least.

This is a highly competitive segment. The GLC NX, and Q5 are running away in this category so far this year, especially the GLC which is up 75% over last year. With the new RDX and the QX50, it's going to just get that much more competitive. The A-Spec package for the RDX might prove to be a pretty big hit for the brand. The outgoing RDX is a bit on the overly understated side of the design and performance spectrum. A-Spec visuals and suspension tuning should bring it closer to the MDX. I do wonder if Acura will have the cojones to make a Type-S (since they did promise Type-S models) to try to challenge the SQ5 and GLC43.

This new RDX should draw some sales from Lexus RX and NX primarily as it seems Acura is upping its style while Lexus is moving in the opposite direction. It might also pull some sales from the X3 and Q5 but not as much as the Lexus utes I mentioned.

I am really looking forward to the new RDX. It has the makings of being a huge success for Honda/Acura.
