Chinese Built Jeep Grand Commander Caught Testing In The US - Will One Be In Your Driveway Soon?
The last time we saw the new Jeep Grand Commander it was leaked prior to its reveal at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. Even though the US loves buying three-row crossovers, the Grand Commander is set to be built and sold in China only. The US will reportedly get its own thee-row Jeep called the Grand Wagoneer. We pretty much gave up on the US getting the new Grand Commander, but we recently spotted a test car running around the US. Could the Grand Commander be coming stateside after all?

Not sure if the styling aligns with the image of Jeep in North America?

This definitely needs to stay in China. Looks like a stretched Renegade, which isn't going to help it compete.

Just to clarify. From all i've read on the new 7-seat Jeep, it's intended to compete at the higher end of the market, against the likes of the Escalade and Range Rover. This stretched Renegade is not going to get that job done. However, if it is intended as an alternative to the Pilot, Atlas, Highlander, et al, then I can see the viability of it. Then again, that would impact the Durango.

Noting how "ON TIME" car makers have been in introducing new vehicles - especially Tesla and FCA - what does "SOON" mean to you.?

China practices Mercantilism. They place huge tariffs on imported goods and force companies to build plants in China. At the same time they steal and loot any technology they can. As Chinese companies are funded and defacto owned by the state they have massive access to funds to buyout western companies which are limited to market funds and not a government checkbook.

This cannot be on Jeep lots fast enough. Rebadge it "Cherokee" and kill the horrible Cherokee.

Looks like a 2012 model year vehicle. Just 5 years behind the times.

I think this tester vehicle matches up with that shadowy teaser pic showing the lineup front/rear fascias. Disappointed at the overall proportions & the side window layout - really wanted the Grand Commander to be a lot more "grand".

Will this sit as tall as a Ram or a Chevy Traverse in size comparison? I have a feeling there will be other disappointed fans & potential consumers.

Hopefully the Grand Commander is not the Grand Wagoneer for the US.
