Audi To Strip Model S Of It's Crown With New e-tron GT

The new machine – revealed by Autocar two years ago – was announced during the company’s annual press conference as one of the 20 electrified models that will feature in its line-up by 2025.

Audi said the e-tron GT, which will be produced at the firm’s Neckarsulm factory, will be 'highly dynamic’ and shows the direction of the company’s performance division.

Brand chairman Rupert Stadler said: “We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future.”

By 2025 - Tesla would have to have a replacement for the Model S - it has already been on the market for quite a while.

All of this depends on if they can make a profit selling the Model 3 - I has already been shown that both GM and Nissan lose large amounts on every EV sale right now - and if they have to price in that loss PLUS profits - no one would buy any of these cars.

It needs to be priced identically when identically equipped.

Agree, but when it hits that point they won't even bother making the ICE versions. I can see a $5-10k premium for right now, which is worth it for lower fueling costs and better performance. Audi should start by positioning their EVs as their top of the line performance cars and then work their way down as they scale.

Audi should create a "Model 3", a "Model X", and a "Model S" that are to the penny priced the same when equipped the same and run Tesla out of business.

Its not going to be that easy for Audi. Audi and Porsche will have to win with better execution/interior quality and will still have an uphill battle. Elon Musk has the ability to turn his product reveals into media events and to get people to line up and wait for products the same way Steve Jobs did. It seems that Elon especially resonates with younger customers. Look at how he got 500,000 people to put a deposit on an unreleased vehicle...I doubt any other manufacturer could even get 500,000 people to request a free brochure.
Also Tesla has the lowest cost/kwh...VW could catch up but it will take a couple generations.

Audi will match the Model S with this e-Tron GT. It will match the Model X with the eTron SUV and it will likely match the Model 3 with a lower-priced, high-volume model.

Audi benefits from being part of Volkswagen Auto Group. As VAG accelerates electric production and spreads it to Porsche and Audi, it will make life a lot tougher for Tesla.

Tesla is diversifying with the the truck, battery super factories, home back up systems and roof tiles. They know they have one more generation (3-5 years) to sell all to themselves before all the manufactures catch up for the most part with competing product.
