While the current Cooper costs $17450 base, the new cooper will cost $600 more at $18050. The new cooper S model will cost about $300 more than the previous one at $21,200.

Are you being sarcastic? The last Mini S with premium and sport packages ran 28k. Now closer to 30k. It's a great car, but for 30k you can get a true BMW used.

VW suffered greatly due to the mini in sales. VW cameout with couple neat models few years back and if, I remember..MINI came out at about sametime and IMO has decimated VW's in sales in the compact car arena. VW just have horrible timing it seems but probably doing okay in Mexico.

MINI customers are not looking for a BMW. This argument does not hold water. A very different car, and by the way, most customers can afford a BMW, but choose not to.
