CT6 V-Sport To Get 550HP BiTurbo 4.2 Liter V8 Engine

CT6 V-Sport To Get 550HP BiTurbo 4.2 Liter V8 Engine

Cadillac will give the CT6 a major power upgrade because the new V-Sport model will be the first vehicle to get a direct-injected 4.2-liter biturbo V8 that will pump out 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque in the top output. There will also be a 500-hp (373 kW) version.

Caddy reports the mill has a completely clean-sheet design. The engineering put an emphasis on keeping the packaging compact but still producing plenty of performance. The mill features a so-called "hot V" where the exhaust exits from the valley between the heads, rather than on the outside like on most V8s. The company also integrates the two twin-scroll turbos into the exhaust manifolds at the top of the engine. Cadillac reports that this setup creates a tighter package and reduced turbo lag.

Nice - Cadillac will finally be more competitive in this segment.

Since the CT6 is so light, this will be a scorcher to challenge M5 and E63

You sure? The full CTS-V with 640hp just came in third in a C&D test behind the E63S abd compsrison einning M5.

A don’t think a less powerful version would fare better against those monsters, though it’d be an interesting comparison to the M550 and upcoming S6 and E53.

The restyling has worked wonders for the dull CT6.

A non handmade version of this engine would be a good idea for the next generation escalade to further separate it from Yukon Denali. Also a version of this will probably end up in the next generation corvette.

I would suspect that this engine will be Cadillac only

Chevrolet already has an overhead cam engine ready for the Corvette.

The Escala cannot come quickly enough.

Actually - while people like ME who own one- and the other guy who actually bought the other CT6 - will see that this is a mid-life retouch - the car coming actually looks like the Escala - and for most people -who never saw a CT6 - few will realize it is not - and it does not have that HATCHBACK that is a non-starter for me on the Escala too.

Audis have been known to give up the ghost in half that mileage.

@mdarringer. Audi has actually been shown to have amongst the highest reliability of ll vehicle brands according to Consumer Reports. You obviously have some bias against Audi, as you make constantly make negative comments about Audi even when it has no relation to the post.

Cash your check from Audi. The reality that that Audi had had some real issues with head gaskets and self-destructing engines.

PS follow the post clearly and you will see that what I said to CLSboy has a context. Just because you're too vapid to see the insight isn't my problem.

This engine is small enough to fit in a new Traverse, no?

I'm assuming it could be used in Cadillac's upcoming large CUV....possibly a V-sport trim.
