Audi R8 tested

So the first test on the Audi R8 is out. The results are quite un-Audi like.

The stability is regarded as amazing. There is no body roll even in the tightest of curves and the handling is top-notch.

The car is in phantom black.

The article is in I believe Portuguese so it is probably unreadable to many. Anyway, just wanted to post that the Audi R8 was tested and the results are unbelievable.

I hope I can be able to get this car someday.
I love the lamborghinish+audi lines and the beautiful audi interior.

BMW 530i what would you say to the amazing stability, almost no body roll even in the tightest of curves and amazing steering feel and stability?

How about changing gears at 8,500 rpm and what about the 44:56 weight distribution and 70% of torque sent to the rear wheels....

Hmmm.....looks like some awfully similar BMW traits wrapped in an exotic shape.

Anyone notice the estimated price in the magazine article? Around EU$150,000 (US$190,470).

Ouch.

Please get brains. Converting European prices with a 19% tax included is stupid. Check the prices of different cars in Europe and here, the price is always, much lower here. The R8 should start at around 100k here. The article is wrong. The R8 starts @ about 100k Euro in Europe.

I must admit, I love it...I think of it as a perfect salad of what a great car should be, exterior appeal(mercedes), interior luxury(aston/merc/bentley), coupled with performance and driving dynamics(BMW/Porsche)..We have on our hands a perfect car here..I am happy to say today is the day that I glance away from a Merc and look at an Audi..Yes, its true, an Audi..

Don´t go by this price, this article is portuguese, it was released in Auto-Foco this week and in here we pay double tax, Car tax and vat over the sum of the price and car tax so a Golf Tdi costs about 39000€! The tac«xes for this car in here should be about 40000€ and in US the taxes for cars are way lower!!
Example, with what you pay by a carrera GT in here you can Buy a carrera GT a Cayenne Turbo and a boxer in US!!!

Is there any info about the V10 variant and when it's comming.I really like the V8 R8.

Before some articles said it's a sheep in wolf's clothing,but now i am starting to believe it's a Wolf,if not a tiger/cheetah.

they are using audi's numbers and Audi says the RS4 is a 4.6 car but the RS4 is heavier and car and driver did a 4.3

The R8 will be a 4.3 at the slow end

I still don't rate this cars looks that highly - there are many many mny better looking cars out-there IMO. I think from the rear views it looks alot better - but that side view from 'car' makes it look stupid... anyway as styling is subjective we don't need to dwell on that.

I think it's obvious it was never going to be a bad car, I think where it will score well is in value for money - as long as they don't price it too high. Personally I'd rather be able to say "I have a lamborghini" than "I have an Audi". So they need to keep it a lot cheaper than the lambos

... actually having thought about it, I'd rather be able to say "I've got a BMW E30 M3 Sport Evo II"

Matt- THE CAR is SOLD OUT in most of Europe so the price must be right.

We have taken several deposits already and I am sure after we can start ordering the car in the US there will be a waiting list. If not then I will have one in my garage

it a hot car no question, i am just saying you guys over rate this car without even driving it, it will not be on sale in the US until next fall. Also audi is a different company than they use to be, they are focused on being the best. But one step of Audi's I question building a A2 based on a VW Seat platform to compete with Mini. Audi needs to leave Mini A2 type cars alone, leave for it VW. Let the brand continue to build it's reputation to silent critics like myself.

Larry, critics like you silence yourself by saying the R8 is a hot car.

Larry, we know you are wondering why BMW hasn't made a car that looks as exotic as the R8.

LarryLarry - 10/30/2006 5:03:55 PM

yes, i have been wanting BMW to make a M1 successor for a long time, I was happy with the Z8, and i think the future BMW supercar will be front-engined, I prefer mid-engined like the R8, or Porsche Cayman. Jaguar last car before it was brought by Ford the super XJR-15. Acura NSX one of the best supercars, supercar looks, performance plus low maintence and very reilable, decent gas mileage 25-30 MPG.

Larry, we know traits such as overall stability, no body roll even in the tightest of curves and steering stability and preciseness are words used to normall describe BMWs.

Since the R8 has clearly achieved those same charactersitics of the Ultimate Driving Machines and looks a bit similar to the Gallardo while offering a 301 km/hr top speed due to the lack of a speed restriction, I think you can clearly see why all the R8s for Europe are sold out, and the ones heading for the U.S. will be too.

I would also like BMW to make a competitor, but unfortunately by the time any M1, M10, Z8 part deux, or Z9 whatever the hell they want to call it comes out, Audi will have all the tools necessary to tinker with the V10 R8 which will be debuting sometime next summer or fall.

If BMW fails to release a competing supercar within another year and a half they will be in SERIOUS trouble in an attempt to catch the forthcoming R8 with V10.

will I think BMW waiting for MB and luxes and also the V10 R8, so they could make a faster one.

Even if BMW does not make a R8 or whatever they are still the top selling luxury brand in the world and battles Mercedes every year for that honor. Audi is still not even close including the R8. I know you and S4 hate that, but ask the audi execs they know the truth. if you think if porsche could buy 24% of VW group stock, BMW has the cash to buy the whole VW group if they wanted. I don't think BMW has to chase Audi, Audi wants to be BMW, they want to be the top selling brand by 2015, according to audi ceo winterhorn. Acura build a supercar before, Lexus will build one they have plenty of cash, Jaguar built a cars more exotic than this R8, Mercedes etc, the fact is Audi is made up of cut and paste reworked VW platforms, with out the gallardo there would be no R8. Tinker a V-10 R8 they don't have tinker the Gallardo will be similar to the v-10 R8.

Larry, I like how in order to defend your favorite brand you respond with a completely off-topic arguement.

Sure, BMW may be the #1 selling brand but does that take away from the fact that they don't have a mid-engine exotic car to challenge the Audi R8, Larry? NO

Since when were my comments based on how much money each group or respective company has Larry?

Who cares if Audi is made of reworked VW platforms?

Your SOOOO jealous of Audi's connection and ownership of Lamborghini.

Well if they drop the V10 from the Gallardo now rated at 600 horsepower, good-bye BMW M1.

My arguement: Aud produces a mid-engined exotic supercar

Larry's comeback to refute my arguement: but BMW is still the #1 selling premium brand in the world.

Great refute of my arguement, Larry. I commend you for staying on topic.
