Evidence Mounts That New Mid Engine Corvette Will Be Cadillac Powered

We just learned yesterday about Cadillacs amped up CT6 sedan in V Sport guise packing an impressive 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) from an all-new 4.2-liter biturbo V8. That should make for a very lively motivator in Cadillac’s flagship, but when we read the press release there was a sense of déjà vu. The engine is all-new, but we could swear we’d heard something about a 4.2-liter V8 before.

We have – in rumors about the much-anticipated mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette. Back in November we were tipped off to a document from IHS Markit that referenced both the Corvette and a 4.2-liter V8, among other engines. Specifically, it pointed to 4.2-liter V8 production in limited quantities beginning in 2019 for a car that should be the mid-engine ‘Vette. And now, we have a confirmed 4.2-liter mill in the General Motors stable. Interesting.

At least it will have space for stuff in the frunk.

Maybe not. Look at various mid-engine sports cars and check out their cargo space. It's dismal, in many.

This is the obvious fitment for this engine. the 6.2L pushrod motors would be very difficult to fit into a mid engine car.

The 6.2 is a rather compact engine.

All the more reason to make Corvette a brand with:

Zora / mid-engined
Stingray / F-R
Manta Ray / Corvette "Z4"

@MD That could work out. You wouldn't want to cannibalize sales, but grow them. The C7 sales started out strong but have faded since launch. Maybe a good, better, best strategy would bring more people to the brand who would traditionally be buying above where the C7 competes, as well as below it. They could even do a low slung 4-door sedan and a high powered coupe like SUV. People buy them, why not from Corvette?

PS There is no such thing as a "Cadillac" engine anymore. Cadillacs use Chevy engines...oops GM engines.

DeNysschen has actually said that the new 4.2 liter CADILLAC V-8 will be exclusive to Cadillac. THe question is - will they CHANGE the engine significantly for a Corvette - or will they actually produce an LT5 based DOHC engine for the Corvette?
