Honda Dealers Beg For Cash On The Hood To Move Slow Selling Accord

When Honda dealers pressed for less clutter in the brand's lineup, the automaker trimmed slow sellers such as the CR-Z hybrid, Element crossover and Crosstour wagon.

When dealers asked for more light trucks, Honda redesigned its pickup and shuffled its production to deliver more consistent supplies of Pilot, CR-V and HR-V crossovers.

When they asked for more zip in the lineup, Honda gave them speedy and sporty variants of the Civic.

Well, for starters, that front looks unfinished.

Dealers had no problem selling the stock of the old Accord once people saw te new Accord. The new Accord could be a winner if the face were gorgeous rather that Aztek-ugly. The tail light need some rethinking. Do that and the Accord is a winner.

lmao, not surprised at all. The accord is trying to rival the camry for most hideous new front end.

How hard is it to make a handsome car?

Apparently impossible for Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.

They need to be more competitive with their leases or their sales will continue to suffer. This is probably the most price sensitive segment of the market. A quick look has the Accord LX at 249/mo with 3199 at signing and Camry LE is at 199/mo with 1999 at signing. The MSRP is roughly the same (toyota $400 or so more) and Toyota comes with 2 years of maintenance included (probably just 2 oil changes but a nice marketing gimmick).

The factory where the Accord is made does not make the CR-V. The Acura TLX and Accord are the vehicles produced there.

Honda miscalculated the completion and should have had lower pricing if they were not going to add incentives out of the gate. Maybe the lower priced entry hybrid will help sales. A detuned 2L turbo (~210hp) in place of the 1.5L would have given the Accord more differentiation from the Civic and better match the Camry.

Honda Accord also has some reliability issues, especially 2008 model year, that cause good amount of people to switch to Toyota Camry next. Since 1994, Toyota Camry has been rated more-reliable than Honda Accord by Consumer Reports, and when more people hear about this, by 1997, Toyota Camry became the #1 best-selling passenger sedan in America, at title still holds 21 years later.

Camry depreciation is largely irrelevant given that most are purchased and driven until they die.

I got it! Buy a new top of the line CRV or Passpoint and get an Accord LX for free, just pay taxes and fees. Upgrades available on the Accord for a small fee.

Then they can dump inventory and start over like they did the civic a few years ago.
