#NYIAS: FIRST Real-life Pictures Of The All-new Toyota Corolla "Hatching" In The Flatiron District

#NYIAS: FIRST Real-life Pictures Of The All-new Toyota Corolla
Yesterday in the middle of the afternoon I received a text from the head cheese around here. He told me to give him a call.

After chatting for a few minutes about the upcoming New York Auto Show (NYIAS) and travel plans he noted that one of our public relations contacts at Toyota had published an image showing the debut of the all-new, 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. But it wasn't a studio photo, it was the real deal on display and near the flagship Eataly location.

As a part of the Silicon Alley community, I only work several doors away. I knew what I had to do.

Arriving on the scene it was interesting. Essentially Toyota hired a creative agency to come up with an approach to revealing the vehicle. Given the return of the Corolla Hatchback, they decided to "hatch" the all-new Corolla in front of New York's iconic Flatiron Building. It's a lovely location with lots of consumer foot traffic.

I took a slew of photos — seen below — and while we were not provided interior access, we'll get that sorted for you next week when the show floor is open to the media.

Until then, let us know what you think of the all-new Corolla Hatchback.

Isn't a Corolla hatch a Matrix?

It was and it was also the iM.

I like the front-end. I like the back-end. But the middle box takes it all away and makes this look like nothing more than a common hatchback.

I'm oddly attracted to it. Maybe it's the blue.

It is a really great color.

Whether it's one a Porsche 911, 718 Boxster, McLaren 570S and now the all-new Corolla, it just works.

So Toyota wants to ignite hatchback sales by introducing an ugly hatchback? if they had given it more of an SUV stance, it would still be a hatchback but they could call it the CorollaCross and it would be more likely to be a "thing" than introducing a Corolla hatchback. With the CHR being such a sales turd, they should have thought this through better.

Ugly little fu*k. Should have stayed in the womb.

I really hate to think just how far a lead on total sales around the world Toyota would have if they actually had styling that appealed to the eye - rather than this mixed up mess that they and Lexus have today.

Bingo! Hey have the reputation for reliability and supportability, practicality, and noteworthy fit and finish. However, they're styling kept me out of their showroom (and Lexus's) last time I bought a car. Even so, Toyota's unit sales numbers are stellar. Go figure.

You forgot some of the safest and best MPG in their class. Original owners also keep them longer than any other. Don't try one you will never go back.

Toyota has been a leader in safety going back to at least the 90's. Do some research.
