FINALLY, Lincoln Gets It Right! Suicide Doors Are Coming BACK To The Continental!
Lincoln plans to add suicide doors to a future version of the Continental sedan in a move that harks back to the nameplate's iconic past, dealers learned Saturday at the 2018 NADA show here.

During its annual make meeting Saturday, Lincoln showed dealers a photo of the Continental with the rear-hinged doors and disclosed plans to build the model, according to multiple dealers in the room who didn't want to be identified. The move is part of an effort to demonstrate the brand's commitment to its car lineup.

The company did not discuss timing or details about the doors...

Ford reps are being tight lipped, but the redesign of the CD4/5 may have been cancelled to move the Fusion and the SuperFusion to a platform designed from the outset for batteries and to move that platform closer in time. Imagine a "Model S" Continental with suicide doors.

Maybe in the marketing pamphlet they should try to come up with a better name than "suicide doors".

Yes, let's be annoyingly politically correct for the triggered pansies.

@carloslassiter: Rolls-Royce calls the "coach doors." I speculate that Lincoln will avoid the word "suicide doors" in their marketing material, for obvious reasons.

As for the nattering kids like MDarringer, I can't wait for their mom to drop them off at daycare so we can talk cars without their incessant noise.

Coachman doors.

Rolls Royce kinda killed the suicide door term a few years ago.

Only fan discussion on the street & fan sites still the "suicide door" term.

So wait. Last week I read that they were mothballing the Continental.

It appears that instead of pouring dollars for a major update to CD4/5 for 2020 or beyond, that Ford is going to jump to a new platform likely electrified. If the Fusion and Continental continue beyond the current CD4/5 they would jump a generation.

Rumor was the current Fusion was being phased-out. The Fusion Sport AWD Eb-V6 was the last hurrah, I guess. But the plan was to make a revised modular platform capable of using hybrid & EV architectures.

IF we stick to the headline of this thread - and let us decide that one first.

Since when is having "suicide doors" getting it right?

Maybe we are trying to say that the 1961 Lincoln was a success because of them - but I would suggest that its outstanding Styling for the time - was simply a new direction for large sedans - so much so that the doors likely made NO difference. I have yet to hear any "AGENT" complain that other cars do not have them!
