100 Months Of Sales Increases - When Will Audi's March In The US Slow Down?

As industry milestones go, this one is borderline unbelievable — 100 consecutive months of year-over-year sales gains. Who does that?

Audi of America did it in February. The German premium brand hasn't reported a sales decline in the U.S. since October 2009.

Perhaps when Audi finally breaks into the 20-30kunits sold per month in the US by the big boys Benz, Bimmer, and Lexus....

Until then, continue to have fun in the sand box with Acura & Infiniti the latter on Audi’s bumper

Car4Life1, spot on! Audi number is still low compared to the big 3 to experience a decline

They are nowhere near Acura, infinity or any other near luxury vehicle. AUDI MAKES LUXURY vehicles and they sell well. People are getting away from boring old folk Benz products and Beamers that are selling off name recognition but stopped producing quality vehicles. Audi doesn't have the cars that the other two have but they are dropping alot this year. I know im getting stairs

Or "sell" them in the USA and then truck them off to other destinations for resale.

As long as Benz, BMW and every car company in the world do it.

Here you go with this rediculous post again mdarringer. Read up about transshipment and you will see that sometimes goods are imported into a country and then exported to another country to maximize efficiency. There are a lot more container ships full of cars coming into US ports than Mexican ports so sometimes vechicles intended for Mexico are unloaded in a US port and carried over land to Mexico. I don’t see why this is so hard for you to understand.

@moron2367 You missed the point. Audi cooks its numbers by selling vehicles in the USA to foreign distributors to cook their numbers.

You are the moron my friend. You certainly have no proof of this yet you keep posting this nonsense. Shouldn’t you be on the lot hawking Hyundais rather then trolling the internet?

Why? Because YOU say so? Would you like all my credit card information too?

Remember this is Audi. The ones who engineered the VWAG TDI cheat device. These are the ones who said "truth in engineering" and then got caught.

Audi is dishonest and you believe them wholeheartedly. That makes you an idiot.

You keep giving statements you can't backup. You sound like those flat earth people. You're c.c info would be useless to me. What would be helpful is you actually show up proof of these bogus sales. Better yet, why don't you go on 60 minutes, Stormy and tell us your side of the story.

I dont really trust any of these companies, but i dont lose sleep over it. And bosch had something to do with that cheat device, they sent me a check too. I didn't think it was all that bad as I'm sitting next to a dully blowing black crap all over the place. No way my wagon was worse that that. You just bitter... Until you provide proof, I'm going to just start doing this. #fakenews

@malba2367 and @bw5011: Try not to let the likes of Matty get under your skin. You take him too seriously if you do. Realize he's like a screaming child on an airplane: Lots of noise, hurting desperately, and mon can't do anything about it :-/

You can't reason or "fact your way out" with a crying kid. Just try to enjoy the in-flight program to the best of your ability. Cheers.

Lexus and certainly Audi don't stand a chance in this blog. Truth is Audi is a solid alternative to Merc, BMW and Lexus and it is correct to say their overall monthly number hasn't seen the red all that long. Like it or not.

Congratulation's to Audi for stealing so many douche bags from BMW.

Except Audi has stolen some of BMW's customers considering BMW's U.S. sales declined in 2016 and 2017. That means BMW buyers are fleeing the brand and I doubt they all started buying from Kia, Hyundai and Lexus.

It's curious that unlike every other car company on the planet -- which experiences month-to-month, seasonal, and economic fluctuations -- only Audi has the magical ability to defy that, and to have the braggadocious claim that they've had 100 consecutive months (8 1/3 years) of uninterrupted, month-over-month unit sales increases.

Wow! Nothing suspicious there, right? ;-)

Equally curious: even though they have this (allegedly) bragworthy claim, Mercedes and BMW have always outsold Audi.

So consider the flip side to Audi's story: If you've had 100 months (8 1/3 years) of constantly increasing unit sales, never declined in a single month, why have you not surpassed the two champs? Isn't that sort of embarrassing, bragging on one hand, while never having won on the other? Isn't it sort of like bragging about having the grandest consolation prize?

_____

Disclosure: I drive an Audi Q5. I like my car. But I obviously didn't drink the Audi Kool Aid.

Have you bothered to look at the sales gap between BMW and Audi in 2010 and in 2018 in the U.S. market as well as globally, Steve? That will tell you the true story about the two brand's direction and rate of growth over the last 8 years. Here's a hint, Audi has closed the gap significantly in the U.S. and could very well overthrow BMW for second place globally in 2018.

What that shows is Audi is a brand that people increasingly want to buy unlike BMW which saw its U.S. sales decline in 2016 and 2017 to the point where it's 2018 sales will likely still be less than its 2015 sales in the U.S. market.

Audi's core models have all shown significant deficits in the past few years, but the total sales numbers were bolstered due to the addition of new models like the A3 and Q3, and now, this year, the A5 Sportback. While growth of the brand's total model offerings is great, at some point Audi's ability to continue to add new models that are also volume drivers will slow significantly or stop completely for a year or two, maybe longer. I almost suspect that Audi will begin to experience what Lexus is experiencing this year, at least until the new UX comes to dealerships.

Part of the reason is Audi's core models like the A4, A6, A7 and A8 were outdated so it had to rely on new models. Fortunately, in 2018 there will be a new A8, A7 and A6 all on sale. 2019 has the new Q3 and all-new Q8 along with eTron models.

Audi's streak more than anything shows the brand produces vehicles that people want. Audi's mix of design, cutting edge technology, interior quality, reliability, service and overall ownership experience has won buyers over. The streak will continue as long as Audi continues to do those things. Of course, it will become harder the more Audi sells but Audi has done a great job of introducing new models to pick up the slack when its core models age. Then the older models get replaced with newer ones and the cycle continues.

What makes this even more remarkable is Audi's main competitors - BMW and Mercedes-Benz - have seen their U.S. sales decline in 2016 and 2017 (BMW) or stay flat in 2016 and decline in 2017 (Mercedes-Benz). While this is going on, Audi has increased its sales every month for more than 8 straight years.
