NYIAS: Volkswagen To Test The Waters For A US Built Unibody Pickup Concept
Volkswagen is considering a jump into the midsize pickup segment with a U.S.-made truck that could be built in Tennessee, sources familiar with the matter told Automotive News.

The pickup, a derivative of the Atlas large crossover, is expected to be introduced on Wednesday at the New York auto show as a surprise concept alongside a new coupe-styled variant of the Atlas already scheduled for production.

A VW spokesman declined to comment on the concept vehicle.

Why? Look at how many Ridgelines Honda has been selling. The $30-50k pickup market has plenty of better options.

VW needs a Golf pickup in the $20s.

If VW is going to do a lifestyle pickup then I agree that it should be a Golf/Tiguan pickup.

The better question is why wasn't the Amarok designed with the USA in mind?

VW should buy FCA for Ram and Jeep. They could market Skodas as Chryslers. And so on.
