#NYIAS: Quality You Can See? Does The New XT4 Interior Befit A True Premium Brand?
It was 2014 when Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen took over the reigns of Cadillac. At that time he promised a transformation of the brand and improvement in quality.
If that seemed like a tall task to take on for a mere mortal, then you have to remember he took Audi from obscurity to prominence as a luxury brand in a very short time. So the man had the skills so to speak.

In his short tenure at the automaker, he has slow the decline worldwide and improved almost everywhere he has touched. Cadillac is now the dark horse in the race.
But can you see the improvement?
Go through and scrutinize the interior of the new XT4 crossover and you be the judge. Is it up to the quality of the Germans or the Japanese? There may be a few hits and a few misses in there, but we want you to point them out.

Arguably, the Chevy Equinox's dash looks more upscale. I find this messy.

Looks good compared to BMW...other than that pretty bad...especially compared to that Lincoln Aviator.

I don't get a sense from Cadillac that they are really TRYING to be innovative or unique with their interiors. While they are pleasantly good looking, nothing stands out. The same can be said for other brands, namely Lexus, Infiniti, Genesis, and, currently, BMW.
That's what makes Volvo, Audi and Mercedes stand out from the rest and at least it appears they are trying to move design and function of interiors forward. Even Acura is trying a new layout with the RDX and will do so with future models. The interior of the new Aviator also brings a sense of style and identity for the Lincoln brand, as well.
So this is where this interior of the XT4 just falls flat. It's functional. It's attractive. But not sure it offers anything that really tells me this is from a premium brand.

I think Lexus did a good job with the LS interior...the materials used are quite good. The other Lexus interiors are not very noteworthy.

This article is beyond stupid. You cannot judge an interior from poorly lighted pictures. You have to sit in the car and then drive it to get a sense of the ease of use. Difficult to judge the feel of the materials from a snapshot.
But even in a photograph the Lincoln interior has LOTS of bright-work like to current Continental or my father-in-law's 2006 Towne Car.
But this is in keeping with this site's prerogative of bashing all things Cadillac.
And one last point Agent 009, JdN has done more than stop the bleeding, globally Cadillac sales are up 21 % vs previous year and have had 21 straight months of increasing sale
