#NYIAS: See The REAL DEAL Pictures Of The All-new Cadillac CT6 V-Sport — Has GM Upped The Ante?
The Cadillac CT6 has been an interesting vehicle to watch since its initial launch. To be straightforward, its design isn't going to stir anyone's emotions as it's still a play on the Art & Science design language, but we're thinking this new fire in the oven will help.

You can guarantee anything equipped with a 550 horsepower V8 will help give it some much-needed attention.

READ the Cadillac CT6 V-Sport's press release HERE!

With an Escala-inspired front grille and some all-new sportiness injected into the CT6's design, we spent some time with Cadillac's flagship model today to get a better idea of what's up here. Largely, it is still the same product with some tweaks and the upgraded powerplant.

That means it gets the same interior with some perplexing decisions — "rat fur" carpeting/mats, manual rear shades, pop up screens that seem as though they're from the early 2000s, etc.

So, I've got to ask: Has GM really upped the ante with the CT6 V-Sport? What say you, Spies?

I really like the long hood look. Not so excited about the interior. They should have done something more interesting than black for a car show debut. Rear 3/4, tail lights, rear end needs a bit of work... looks awkward to me. The rest of the exterior is pretty nice. Nothing ground breaking but nice. Interior just seems so so... nice enough but would like to see it in person. Exterior B+ (mainly because of the long hood), interior a C.

Caddy's styling, inside and out, has left me cold for years. I'm glad it appeals to someone.

Looks like it comes from a Chevy Rentabu.

I think the front and rear clips are considerably improved. Looks to be more in the direction of the Elmiraj (spelling?). The interior is a bit weaker in design, more appropriate to a car costing $45K.

Meh. Still looks like the big block that it is. I wonder how much debate went into deciding where to put the Cadillac logo on that massive grille.

At least from the outside - this car does look a LOT like an Escala - without the Hatchback - and I believe that will be a major PLUS for it. However - I would rather have MY current CT6 interior -the new Dash is hideous. In addition - the one I saw on the floor had a weird two color interior - with two shades of sort of brown - that really did not go well together (According to my friend).

"rat fur" carpeting/mats
----------------------------------------------------------
Does this mean that it's gray and that gray is a bad thing? Or is the weave of the carpet too 'rat-like', and if so, what the hell are you talking about?

One of our favorite lines from Maximum Bob was the "rat fur" reference.

It is a reference to the gray/black carpeting as well as the rather poor quality of the carpeting/mats.

GM hasn't upped the ante. All it's done is to get the CT6 to where it should have been 3 years ago.

Nice improvements - too bad no one will buy one!

Everybody has an opinion. Why are you not running Cadillac? I have been in a few CT6s and not sure what "rat fur" you are referring to above.
The car should have been offered with a V-8 from launch if for no other reason this is Cadillac's heritage, big luxury with a long hood and a V-8. The competitor's in this class all offer V-8s.
The interior is not great, too busy and flat, but still better than the big panel gaps on BMWs and whatever it is that Lexus is trying to do.

Really have a look at the mats/carpeting.

For a vehicle in this price range, it is rocking carpeting/mats from an economy car.

1st of all - I appreciate this V-sport trim didn't get all the gaudy chrome/chrome-like interior bits that other luxury makers tend to overuse. The overall interior characterizes an understated level of capability & refinement. This CT6 V-sport has the new 4.2L TT-V8 & other sporty bits. Just like other V-sport models, not many consumers are remotely aware of their existence.

But I do agree, Cadillac should have led with this trim for the global introduction of the CT6. There's a reason why Audi & M-B basically cram all the S & AMG model info down our throats but we tons of non-sport trim models on the street.

Good post, dumpsty. I read an interesting interview with Ferdinand Peich years ago. He said that the Phaeton did not have to make money to be successful. Its technological prowess helped it sell more GTIs vs regular VWs and with more equipment. As you said, other makes usually introduce their products at auto shows with the top of the line, AMG, M-Sport whatever as it is the one that will drive the most interest and magazine road tests. Most consumers want some of this, bt buy the lower optioned car. If Cadillac had led with this model they would not have to explain that better stuff is coming, oh and the 4 cyl is great. Should be our top car, big V-8, boom.

Indeed. But I would have put it in the centre of the grill. It looks too close to the top of it for my tastes. Perhaps the designers thought this slightly untraditional placement would be visually appealing to a modern buyer. Ford and Ferrari centre the logo on the grill. But what do they know?
