Jaguar Land Rover Considering US Assembly Plant

Jaguar Land Rover Considering US Assembly Plant

A number of foreign automakers have recently announced plans to open manufacturing facilities in the United States and it appears Jaguar Land Rover wants to join them.

In an interview with Wards Auto, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth said the company is always asking itself if it can open a plant in the United States and when they should do it. However, he admits Jaguar Land Rover is a “very small company” and “we need a certain volume of vehicles to be sold in the U.S. to make the overall production in the U.S. viable.”

Trumps threat of potential tariffs seems to be resonating and the US is a big enough of a market that he can do this. Leverage -America wins!

As the article reads, there is not enough volume in any single model sold in the USA from their product lines to justify a plant in North America. 20k units per model or less. It is a business decision that has nothing to do with Trump's daily tweets about possible tariffs that may never, ever see the light of day. As well it looks like a new NAFTA agreement will be reached this quarter, maybe even this month. So much for the haters and their MAGA hats. Facts 1 Haters 0.

they should just cut a deal with Ford or GM for production space.

@MD - Not a bad idea. But it would need to be a flex-line that could make more than one vehicle for it to be worthwhile for Jaguar. My guess would be the SUV model would be chosen. Even better if it and the XE sedan could be made on the same line. Or the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. I think they share a platform. However, some buyers (not all) may see it has not being British enough if the vehicle is not made in the UK.

@Canadiancomments Ford would be the obvious partner.

Given that the XE is dead for sales, there would be no need for American production space.

I'd replace the XE, XF, and XJ with a new XJ sized like an XF and which looks like the Bertone B99.

CC Trumps threats of tariffs, tax reforms and tearing up NAFTA is causing many big Canadian companies to either relocate to the US or expand there rather than in Canada. Even worse is many companies looking to expand to Canada are having second thoughts as the US offers 10X the people, favorable taxation and a much more business friendly environment.

Bluffing aside America wins and that is the point I was trying to make. No hate just facts as the US is booming and we are slipping backwards into a over taxed, over regulated socialistic shithole.
