BMW To Shake Up Segment With 410HP M2 Competition

BMW To Shake Up Segment With 410HP M2 Competition
Pictures and details of the long-awaited BMW M2 Competition have leaked online following an early publication by BMW Australia.

The information confirms that the M2 Competition uses the same S55 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine as the M4 but has been detuned to 410 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. BMW quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.2 seconds with a dual-clutch transmission. The punchy engines revs up to 7600 rpm.

No mention has been made as to whether or not the M2 Competition will be offered with a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Even if it’s not, the short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive system, and compact nature of the car promise to make it an absolute treat to drive.

I don't believe that just adding more horsepower will give BMW the sales boost they're seeking.

This will be an awesome little rocket with the M4 motor in it. Wonder what the premium will be over the regular M2....

Still gets smoked off the line and through the 1/4 mile by the RS3. Either way, they should work on making more reliable cars instead of cars that break down faster.

It is still a nice looking car. I think it is the second best looking in their lineup behind the M4.

BMW is 8th in JD Power, ranked ahead of Audi (13th) and Mercedes (15th). The industry average falls between Audi and Benz.

M2 is probably better through a road circuit with a much lower polar moment of inertia. Hanging an engine out over or in front of the front axle is not a preferred method to create a great handling car.

RS3 looks like an A3 with nice wheels, different Exhaust, Brakes and Bumpers. RS3 looks too bland for the type of vehicle that it is. It would take about $4k to make an A3 look like an RS3. Not that easy with the M2. RS3 needs to look meaner.

And BMW is more reliable than Audi according to JD power.

I don't know about JD Power, I can only go off the vehicles I own. Either way though on average any of the vehicles are good.

@LexSucks .. come on, you the M2 and 240 look alike now... It would cost less than 2k to make the 240 look like a M2. They are different trims not different cars... They don't suppose to look completely different.

They needed to. The M240i catches and passes the M2 on the highway
